Old Friends Friday

Just arrived in yesterday's mail a neighbor from Clovis California shipped this one to me, and now one of my favorite's. - have seen these kits in brown smooth colored pouches, as for this one, it is black with gold lettering. - wonder what the year's they were made, and which is older. - black or brown - anyone know - ?

Old, and a friend.
I don't know, but Napanoch is a grand old brand.

Very nice horn on that one. (Nine years already!)

I have an embarrassment of riches in Old Friends today. I found what I was looking for, and that started a couple of unrelated hares.
I'll use the one I started with.
One of two Camillus large Barlows that I bought on the same trip back east. I just noticed this morning that this one must have had its pin replaced. On the other one I have to squint through a 10x loupe to see the pin.

I'll save a random hare for Tuesday.
Thanks Jer, it's gone quick  Nice Barlow amigo

I keep meaning to start a thread about these tool kit knives :) Apart from the small Richards sets I have, I have 2 nice full-size German sets, which cost me more than any knife I've bought. One I bought nearly 10 years back, photographed it, and never looked at it again. The other, I bought a year ago, and it's still wrapped-up from when I bought it! 😖

Just picked up a couple more Ulery Knife and Tool Kits Today ~ one seems to have a missing tool and a handsewn pouch and the other one with its original pouch ~

Nice find  I have bought the only two sets I've ever seen here! :D Here is the one I got round to photographing

A piece of history Steve :)
These are actually also made by the Napanoch Knife Company and were manufactured from 1902 - 1919 - and here is a advertisement for them - when they were sold.

Very cool

Now this is a good kit with some common household tools, these tools regularly get needed more often than most of the other minimal style kits - think a hammer and pliers and cutters are called upon and needed much more often than the rest, at least around here they do - what maker was this kit manufactured by - ?

I carried this Whitetail Cutlery congress for a while around 1980.

That's interesting Jer, I've never really taken to carrying a knife with more than 2 actual blades

Thank you, I'll have to get round to photographing the Bonsa set I have. I don't think I was ever able to track down a maker for this one. It's German-made, and for the US market I understand, so the mark could relate to a factor or end-customer, rather than the actual manufacturer

I don't remember what possessed me at the time. Maybe just novelty.
That Whitetail is less blocky than most other 4-blade congresses I've seen. But why four blades if the second pair duplicates the first?

Yet my most attractive (to me, at least) four blader is this John Primble/Belknap Co, with duplicate blades:
