Old Friends Friday

Went to the pistol range today with my Craftsman large stockman.

Now that I'm home, my mid '70s German Boker junior stockman @ 3-3/8" closed.

I do realize it’s no longer Friday, but it wasn’t until today that I found the time to replace the gassed-out celluloid on my grandfather’s old Remington friend. Before:

After (shown here with a model ship he built):

Doesn’t match the other side, but I couldn’t find anything closer among the acrylic pen-turning blanks at the Woodcraft store:

Not perfect, but I turned it back into a decent user.

Nice work Tom, and a cool pic

I’ve done dumber stuff than that…
Me too - way dumber .

At the end of the day, it’s just a thing. Grandpa didn’t take it with him, and I won’t take it with me either. He died when I was just 5, but from what I do remember of him, I’m sure he would have gotten a huge grin from the idea of me monkeying around with his silly old pocket knife some 55 years later.

There’s a song about that…

I had to make a trip to London, and working at the Old Bailey, where you can't even take a phone in, let alone a pocket knife :(
Yeah - there was a period between the implementation of post- 911 security measures, and land records being available online, when I used to sometimes have to do deed research in person at the courthouse. The bottom knife in that picture got stashed in the planter out front more than once, when I got there and realized I still had it in my pocket…

I seem to remember there being thick evergreen shrubs in there back then - I also seem to remember me and Jer discussing that already…
