Pretty bone on that Primble Glassjaw.;)

Definitely thought of you and this tread when I saw it. I couldn't help but pick it up. Almost got the 2 others he had. Thought the wife might not be to happy with me though.

Primble- the knives, the display and the pictures you painted with your story are all wonderful. Took me back to my family visits to Tennessee to visit my Grand and Grandma. Always loved the trips to the store to look at the knife and BB gun displays! Sure didn't see that kind of stuff in Chicago where I grew up. Take care and thanks again for sharing.

Thank you guys. I am thinking on sneaking this old Utica in the cabinet until I accumulate a few more nice old Primbles:

and maybe this old Schrade Cut. Co. on the top row for a while:

Yea or nay ?? - nothing is permanent with the magnets.;):)
( Remember that Primble contracted with Utica and Schrade for many of their knives );)

As I look into my crystal ball I see more display cabinet projects in Primble's future:D
So many knives, so few places to display them!

I have to say you were right about the cabinets. I recall you saying they were/are great.:D

The problem is more like so few places to put the cabinets.:D

Yay on adding those two gems to the display:thumbup: They'd look right at home Primble.

That really looks nice, Primble! All that preparation and work paid off. Your memories took me back to that much simpler time in my life. Excellent!

I can't improve on what Gary said!
Just like Paul I also just "found" this thread, actually I saw the title a few times but just never had the time or the internet connection.
Really like the fact that you didn't change the condition of the display as you found it.

Dave

I'd say add them; no question about it. They are both beauties!

Primble, I'd like to thank you for the effort you've gone to (with the help of others) make this display box look so right. The background really shows the knives off to proper advantage, the magnet idea was a brilliant piece of simplicity. I was going to suggest some idiotic velcro approach, glad I didn't.. You can now change or re-orientate the display at will. It looks authentic, organic not some sterile 'perfect' museum effort.

Much admire the tasteful furniture and ornaments in your house, the positioning of the display shows real aesthetic sense and appeal.

Not only this, but I enjoyed reading the background to this and your childhood memories written in a lyrical and potent style. A hard thing to do to write about the past without mawkish sentimentality and nostalgia diminishing the impact. Memory is what gives us creative force, without it we are lost in a fog of the commonplace. I think creative is a key-word here, those knives are now at home in all senses.

Regards, Will

Thank you everyone for the suggestions and comments - really appreciated. 👍:)

I went and bought eight more Neo magnets today and sneaked six old knives in the display cabinet, for a total of fourteen old knives in the cabinet now. It takes two magnets per knife to get them to slant. The new additions are old Schrades, Uticas, and NYKC knives and I really doubt that my old Primbles know the difference.

Well - they are kinfolk since Schrade and Utica made many of the old Primble knives - lets just say different tang stamps. It looks fabulous to my eye and it also will cause me to take my time about acquisitions of some of the nicer old Primbles, which will boot the kinfolk out over time.

I thought I had a really nice older Primble Harness Jack cornered today, but, the deal fell through. I just look at it that some things are not intended to be and my quest continues.

I will take some new pics tomorrow of the display board and knives added and post them here.

It is just me and my two black cats here and I really doubt they know the difference of which are Primbles and which are kinfolk, although they do seem to question my somewhat ridiculous logic sometimes:

:D

...Everything about this thread is magnificent. You, the display, the input from friends and of course the end result;)

LOVED the story of your growing up...

I wholeheartedly agree with Paul. This thread exemplifies everything that attracts me to the traditional subforum: spectacular knives, amazing generosity, fine craftsmanship, personal passion, help from good friends, stunning photos, personal stories and nostalgia, and some history of the knife industry. It's really great to see your dream come true, Primble!

That is a very nice one Duncan - thank you my friend.

I did what I said and added some old Schrades and Uticas to the board, for the present. I like it the way it is today, however, intend to slowly find some really nice old John Primbles to add to the display. I can weed the kinfolk out, over time.
