That is looking wonderful Primble-just a great job!

Wow, just... wow. Today's lineup looks fantastic!

+5K! My little collection of knives in an old tackle box somehow looks more shabby than it used to. :p:eek::p

Beautiful collection on your board Primble....really nice!

Many thanks friends. 👍👍:)

I think I failed to mention that the 3 coats of finish on the board were done with an artist brush and the clear sealer has a surface texture like a painting. ;):)

Outstanding, Primble!! What a true work of Art!! I hope it brings out that boy in you that used to walk for miles for just a look!!

Wish I could sit sipping on a home brewed coffee with you and stare at it. :D

Wish you could too Gevo - I know you would like it in person. The Neo magnets (2 per blade) nearly snatches the knives out of my hand when I get them close to the board. They sure don't act like they will be slipping or anything - thanks for that info.;):)

That pic of the board and knives without the glass just show how awesome this came together sir! I must say I am jealous, I love that you've got the magnets working so well--very neat.

A moveable Feast! Glad you like the magnet system, Rob!
Do the magnets you are using have a non-slip surface?

Yes - I really like it Charlie - I can just slide the glass up a bit and snatch a knife out if I want.

The Neodymium magnets are smooth and shiny surfaced, however, with two per blade - to get the slant effect - it takes quite a bit of force applied to get them to slide.

I am confident I picked the right suggestion(s) for my purposes.:thumbup::)

I did what I said and added some old Schrades and Uticas to the board, for the present. I like it the way it is today, however, intend to slowly find some really nice old John Primbles to add to the display. I can weed the kinfolk out, over time.

Anyway - this is the board front with glass out today:

They sure look GREAT Primble! I'm glad your hard work paid off.

Can we see a shot of the magnets attached to the knife? Just want to see exactly what you decided on. Thanks in advance

Although, I may have missed something since I've been absent so I will shoot back through the thread.

An entertaining and informative thread that shows the fellowship around here.

My favorite part of the whole thread,"I took my mother down to an old antique store"

You can't buy that.Congratulations Rob.

Primble, did you use mod podge for the sealer, by any chance? I was thinking about printing out a few of the old Schrade catalog pages and sealing them on tin something like this.

Thanks!

I will take pics of that today Gevo. ;)

Thank you for that Lyle - my mother is the one who is responsible for me liking old stuff. She is 85 years old and pretty mobile for her age.;):)

Beautiful knives - stunning display!

Thank you OH. :thumbup::)

Dan,

I used to take wildlife photos of mine and use the mod podge to attach them to distressed and stained one by lumber. Be sure and let the photo ink dry for at least a day and I then spray the photo with a matte acrylic sealer spray, available in Walmart craft section. I also use the matte mod podge as the gloss is to shiny for my liking. I bought some flexible plastic squeeges ( like Bondo is spread in auto section ) to get all the air bubbles out. I usually do random strokes with a large artist brush to give it a painting type of finish - usually three coats of podge. The last step of this project was that I sprayed a light coat of the sealer over the podge.

I donated a lot of these to the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill property and many of the bird boards are mounted on the walls of their very nice bird sanctuary blind, which is attended frequently by school children, on field trips. The blind is not heated or cooled and sits in the woods. The process I used has held up for over ten years quite nicely, even in the hot and humid or cold climates in that blind. ;):)

I used the same process for attaching the Primble graphics to the steel board.

Thank you, Sir! Fully adjustable to each knife so that they hang properly! Again, magnificent work on these pages! I went back and read it again:thumbup::thumbup::D

Thank you Gevo - you got it down exactly and much appreciated. Glad to see you hangin' around the porch again. ;):)

It feels like something is missing when you are busy with other things.

I'm glad you showed the magnets. Just putting them on the blade holds them in place? I'm kind of surprised by that, I might have to re-engineer a couple of display cases! Oh boy.

Mark - the Neo magnets are super magnets - they hold the knives firmly in place. As Waynorth mentioned early on - the main limitation is that you need to display blades up and I also found that the pile side blade needs to be opened and used with the magnets. Otherwise, the bottom of the knife kicks out too much. You can see on the stockman style knife on the far right top row, I ended up using the magnets on the sheep foot blade instead of the main clip blade. Not a big deal at all - I really like the whole concept of the magnet board.:)
