"Old Knives"

Poor quality pictures, much prettier in hand and it goes without saying exceptionally well made.
Thanks Duncan :thumbsup:
Rob, that New York is gorgeous, Both you and Cal have shown two extremely nice Pearls this Page!

Thank you Gents, ( Bowing and removing the hat in Honour )

You can't see it in my dim picture but the main blade has a match strike pull. More snow last night, I'll get out for better pictures next week :thumbsup: thanks for the compliments Gus:thumbsup:
Hats off over here as well Duncan.

Gus

Awesome Rob!
Can’t wait to see those brighter pics.
I noticed the double pulls right away...
Love how they’re placed :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
I’d like to think I don’t bore you with those compliments my friend :D

Beauty, Cal!! Empire made that one for Schrade, for sure.
That's why, in later years, Schrade gave credit to Empire, when they copied that "flared" banner shield!! Cool missing link!!:DView attachment 1510232
Cool history Charlie, Schrade also borrowed from Empire’s frame design for their farmers jacks , as the only two makers known to put the pruner’s pin outside of the rat tail in the bolster. Both 4 1/8” , a little over the normal apx. 4” standard.

You know, this round thing, is an endearing theme it seems.
Also, the blades... you just don’t see those kinds of lines anymore.
Duly noted :cool:

** Augie, those ebony handles are delish’ !

Gus

Thank you Augie :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Even that federal shield has those slimmer and sharper lines, compared to today's variants.
A pleasure to view here my friend.

When my grandmother moved into an assisted living and we helped mover her things to sell her house we found some of my Pop’s stuff. “Meemaw” knows I like pocket knives so she gave me his old pocket knife.

It says IMPERIAL PROV, RI on the tang stamp. The shield is a Diamond and has DE with an arrow through it. Its pretty obvious that its an old Imperial Diamond Edge. (Edited to add... Turns out after more research this is an 858DE Serpentine Jack. Apparently at one time that was etched on the blade. If anyone has an idea when they were produced Ide love to know). Its pretty rusted and has some kind of glue or epoxy on the blade. The blades snap open and have a strong bias in the open position. Its a little gritty when you open it. The have zero snap shut and you have to actually move them all the way closed.

My Pop grew up near Martinsburg, WV and was a hard working guy that could build anything. He was a Jump Master in WWII and participated in Operation Varsity dropping paratroopers in Germany in 1945. He only told me about it once wouldnt ever speak of it again. I doubt this knife is that old though. After the war he went to college and became a science teacher. He retired when I was young. He was the only person I have ever seen that threw horseshoes like a frisbee. He would throw a ringer 9 times out of 10. I guess there wasnt much to do in rural WV when he was growing up. He passed in 2001 from cancer. I miss him very much. This knife is a great keepsake and even though I have much nicer and more expensive knives, it is the pride of my collection.

A treasure for sure!
Riz you do need to get some Mineral Oil on and in that Knife - there’s a lot of red active rust - Douse it in oil - 0000 grade steel wool is so fine that when used with Steel Wool it doesn’t shine anything up - but you finish up with a red rag and a Happy Knife.
Oil in the Joints and when blades are half open oil along the sides protruding Spring at the back, work the blades all e way in and out, wipe and repeat quite a few times - often the snap returns - sometimes not but you'll have a well lubricated happy knife for sure.

It may be due to the Celluloid Handles gassing as well - I’d clean it up and keep it away from my other knives and keep and eye on it. :)

Well, we just got through with some minus 27° weather and I needed something to warm me up. Maybe a little knife! Yes! That's it! A little knife to warm the cockles of me heart! Warmer wx is on the way; we sent the winter on down South, I guess; sorry about that.View attachment 1511019 View attachment 1511020 View attachment 1511021 View attachment 1511022 View attachment 1511024 View attachment 1511025 View attachment 1511026 View attachment 1511027 View attachment 1511028 View attachment 1511029
