"Old Knives"

Got another nice group in :) I never get tired of finding the mid-40's Camillus E/O jacks they are always so well made. Then another Camillus product, a Stainless Cut Co pen knife, my very first Kabar knife and another pic of the Schrade Cut Co MOP. Sometimes I focus too much on getting good pics of the pearl that I lose sight on the overall knife so I'm adding this one for the heck of it :D

Nice Paper work there Mike- Now that's what you call a Letter Head! Just beautiful- I think the artwork and design that go into that is simply awesome, a real shame we don't try to bring that back you know! Some of it was very Masonic-like.

I very much like that Stainless Kev, those were the days when Camillus really were shouting to the World about this new High Quality steel, I was talking to a Knife collector friend who I purchased 3 mint Camillus Stainless Branded Knives from and he stated that The Stainless Line was extremely top Quality from Camillus- which I agree with him 100%

For sure Duncan  In fact I was thinking today that I have quite a few of the Stainless Cut Co knives and should put together a group photo for the Camillus/Schrade thread. :)

I haven't had any new to me old knives to contribute lately (I always enjoy the contributions here), but I did pick up some NYK Co. paper recently. One is from 1889 and has Thomas W. Bradley as president. There's some handwriting on the back that includes the Aug. 29 date. The invoice is from 1882 and it also has the amount, date issued and date paid handwritten on the back. (Wow, cursive writing so beautiful and yet my kids can't read it.)

Last is a 1912 letter from NYK Co. to Biddle Hardware that was signed by C.B. Fuller, who was treasurer at same time that his brother, J.E. Fuller, was president. I also just got a NYK Co. catalog as well, which I'll post some scans of over the weekend.

I wonder what the items were in that 1889 invoice. The first line has things that are from $1.20-$2.80/dozen, and below that is something that is only $9/gross. My 1884 HSB catalog has a few very small boy's knives that run around $1.50-$1.90/dozen, so I would guess that this invoice involves something along those lines. But $9/gross would be far less and I wonder what it was.

Picked up this unusual Keen Kutter Wharncliffe whittler the other day as a BIN eBay, was just listed. No pattern number, all blades stamped E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter, looks to have little use, seller listed the size at 4" closed which does not correspond to any pattern in the Keen Kutter book so I would not be surprised if it is smaller when it actually shows up.
The pattern is an early pattern with those long slim pen blades, anyone ever seen another like this or have an idea what pattern number might be? Will take better pics when arrives.

Another nice one Augie. Great looking knives, North Shore, Un-Chained and Duncan. Lambertiana, there's a knife that looks like a boy's knife for $350 per dozen with rosewood scales at 3 1/8.

Here's the catalog. I don't usually buy catalogs that don't have full-sized cuts, but this one seemed to have a lot of knives in it.There are 24 pages with knives on both sides of each page.

I was a bit disappointed that the seller dated the catalog somewhere between in 1911 and 1934, but this letter explains the time frame. I was unable to find anything on the internet about Jas A. Irwin, so I was glad to get the letter. It seems as though Mr. Brumley led a full and interesting life.

Nice Keen Kutter Augie Augie
Always enjoy seeing those original catalogs Mike Robuck Mike Robuck
View attachment 1521842 Got this small NYKC cattle knife with etch remaining, nice snap. Punch still has blueing
Nice to see a twin for the one I posted recently, complete with broken punch! I wonder if there was a problem with the steel they used for the punch on that set of knives.

I recently picked up this Keen Kutter scout knife

Superb catalogue Mike

Kind of interesting/surprising that on the Equal End 2 blade Spear 2203 Stag is cheaper than White-Bone. It could of course be that the word 'Stag' is used inaccurately (as it often was) and is Stagbone.

Knife 2056 is my idea of ideal! A GEC 38 could be the basis of something similar.

Also of note, knife 341 kind of Mini Sportsman with a nice Orleans (?) shield, very cool

Thanks, Will

Thanks Will and pistonsandgears. (Love that Keen Kutter scout shield.) I tried on several pair of glasses looking for the pattern Will mentioned before realizing I could just look in the catalog. Thanks for helping us old duffers out, Un-Chained.

Indeed it was Charlie, my glaucoma took over the wheel :D

Will edit the original
So annoying, I am sure! I changed my post to suit!
I use 2.50 reading Glasses, and 1.75 for computer.
Distance is 20x20 since my cataracts were removed.
I'm sure it's not that easy with glaucoma!!
Take Care,
CC
