"Old Knives"

This is a neat old one-blade electrician's knife! Perfect for lighter chores such as hooking up a new wall sconce, or changing out a switch!! Well made with a sharpened edge, and Cocobola handles with a fancy shield, and nice firm lockup!! I wonder if Empire invented this tool? Elec 1BL 1.jpgElec 1BL 2.jpgElec 1BL 3.jpg

I’ve been welcomed in the most grand fashion by ALL of you still here, that drop by every once in a while, or every single day like I do lol! We have an appreciation that brings us here and for myself especially is the fascinating study of old knives. Now the friends I have made here in such a short time is quite a privilege, and I do mean everyone. From the beginning… guys like ed_, danno, Rob, Duncan, Cal, Eric, the Mikes, p&g, Kev, John, Charlie, Lloyd, the list goes on and on and on… just off the top of my head -see!!
I liked a couple of blades from one of us that decided to graciously reach out to me. Transaction complete and mind blown (expected!) and perfectly delivered, I can’t thank Cal -tongueriver enough!!
There are three knives in total, all lurvely numbers really, unique and honestly kept. This is the first…
I like the tooth-pick pattern especially the oldies… my grandfather had an array of them he used around his olive trees and livestock pens in Greece. As a boy when visiting, I was fascinated by this streamlined pointy thang!! Watching him sharpen it on the black stones and then grinning when they sliced like razors, was a treat for a hockey playing Canadian kid.
This is a beauty of a Moore-Handley HDWE Co that’s 5ā€ closed, snappy with heaps of character worn into the handles and all the metals. Happy Saturday nite all

Another of the unusual ones I picked up last week, this one a Humason & Beckley Manufacturing large. 4" stag equal end jack. H&B was around late 1850's until 1912. I see many of their knives with stag and horn covers, more so than other makers of the time. Despite good honest use this heavy jack is still tight and snappy. An unusual feature of this H&B is the match strike pull in the swedge, makes sense from a leverage standpoint.

Amazing stag,wow

Love that Knife my friend.
Cal is an absolute awesome guy and Ienjoy my discussions with him as well as the odd buying experience now and then - all of which has always been a pleasure.

I’m wondering who made that Knife - love those Bolsters and that Beautiful jigged Bone - looking up Moore & Handley Hardware - trying to find who made the knives for this merchant - BRL mentions Boker, Schrade, Camillus & NYK - all outstanding Cutler Firms, the first I thought of looking at that Stunning Bone is Camillus - what’s your take on this one Gus - did Cal give you his valuable insight on this one at all?

Thank you as always Duncan!
We briefly chatted here online a couple of days ago, mostly about the package’s safety upon arrival. I was so excited that I didn’t even ask!! Now, I as well believe Camillus to be the maker of this one, and we’ll see as Cal will drop in with some more insight. He’s busy busy lately, but I’m sure he’ll add some info at some point.

Nice old honest toothpick Gus, I tend to agree with Duncan that Camillus is a possibility as far as maker but I would not rule out Challenge. Both Camillus and Challenge had very good bone and also had a variety of jigging patterns, if I remember right Challenge made a fair amount of toothpicks. Throwing examples of Challenge and Camillus out there.

Thank you and always a pleasure seeing your blades John!!
They are both very similar regarding jigging aren’t they? I enjoy the sleuthing as much as the anticipation of having them in hand!

Wow!!! If Queen could be said to have had a Golden Era, these two fisherman Toothpicks could be said to represent that ERA!!!
Wonderful, shapely examples!!! šŸ‘
