"Old Knives"

A nicely kept 3”5/8s congress pearl pen made for J.M. Schmid and Son in Providence, Rhode Island. The blades are all stamped with smooth action, half-stops and are hardly used if at all. The pearly covers are almost flawless, with a tiny bit of storage wear and reflect nicely in silvery pink and green. All nickel and steel with coined liners and tight, springy and snappy with gawgeous lines throughout.

Lovely Senator indeed !!!!! Treasure

Gus, very pretty MOP shadow congress

Here are four small folders (3 Jacks and a Whittler) all about 3.25 inches that I am reacquainting myself with. About a year and a half back I was reorganizing some of my collection moving some from one wood mechanics tool chest to another one. I had put a number of knives into knife rolls while I cleaned and repaired them. I then moved them back into the tool chests emptying one roll after another until I was done—or so I thought. Well, I guess I missed these four as I found them in two different rolls. What prompted me to do this was I couldn’t find a particular Jack I was looking for (found later in a tool chest drawer I didn’t look closely enough at) so I thought I better check the knife rolls stored away and lo and behold I found these four😳🤪 Moral of story, be careful when handling small folders as they can be easy to misplace at least for this numb skull🤭!

Top down: Simmons, Cattaraugus, Keen Kutter and HSB.

Gus, nice Schmid ! I posted this whittler earlier in this thread, they imported very finely made knives, your senator and this whittler are a testament to that fact.

Rob, beautiful MOP Whittler:thumbsup::thumbsup: Upon closer inspection (in Gus’s first two photos the handle body looks curved) it is indeed a shadow senator.

Rob, I guess I could blind fold myself and send you four small folders—I wouldn’t miss them for a year and a half😳🤪 Now what were we talking about? 🤔

That’s a very nice Knife my friend. The amount of skill to be able to assemble such a delicate and yet sturdy Knife is something that amazes me to no end.
Beautifully coined liners and extremely tidy Swage work that is usually an important thing to try and fit all the blades into such a fine frame, yet looking at that lovely bunch of blades so easily nesting in there - there’s room for more!!!
Very nice Knife!

A real beaut there p&g !!
I really like those K-K scales, pins and blades

Thank you Duncan! you’re so right and you can really notice that quality layout in hand as well.
Thanks to you as well Gev, and Mike, as it’s going to be one of my most cherished numbers!!

Thanks for the kind comments on the Ulery set.
Lloyd glad you found those again, nice ones!
Gus, that is a fine looking congress
Rob, very nice Mop whittler, I do love whittlers

Added this Keen Kutter recently.

Super nice Jack, P&G!! Looks barely used under that fine patina of age!!

Wow! what a page!

Lloyd- Stunning group of four beauties- I know what you mean, I took a box out the other day and found a couple of knives I couldn't find months back! It was a very pleasant time going through that big Box of Knives- I had many that I forgot about as well- I said to my Wife- That is what Collecting is all about- The feelings I was experiencing going through that particular Box was such a pleasant time.

P& G my friend- as stated already- what a awesome Jack you got there ! nothing beats Knife collecting when something like that stunner turns up- I love it! I was going to comment on its little use- But Charlie already has....Just an amazing Knife right there!

Rob! - Matey- isn't it funny, your mind is like mine in the appreciation of Knives- although I cant say that really because every knife that is posted in here I love!
I have just received a handful of Older J.A Henckels- a couple of them very old, in this lot was a Pearl Whittler like yours - an extremely High Quality one that is unstamped- I purchased this off our good friend Roland - it is quite a stunning Knife so I know what you mean about the build of that Knife you are holding.

I purchased this Knife for my good Friends Lady who likes to carry a Knife but is very fussy about the Knife she wants- I hope she likes this one. Roland seems to think that it may have been a intended Sample Knife- it is totally unused Vintage, I think the manufacturer looks to be either Henckels or perhaps Wusthof - someone very good any way. I will post when I can as I only opened them up last night.

I have not commented for some time now. Summer time I spend most of my time at the lake, beyond the reach of internet.
There have been a great many beautiful knives posted in the last while, by Augie, Charlie, Duncan, pistonandgears, galvanic1882, Gus, Rob, Padruig, ed-is-dead, ea42, glennbad, tongueriver, r8shell, Pt-Luso, baxtrom, Lloyd and Frank K. Too many knives to comment on them all but a few that really stood out to me:
Augie's Bridge Cutlery easy open jack; Charlie's fantastic NYK Eureka jack; Duncan's Joseph Rodgers senator; pistonandgears KK pruner and KK jack; Gus's J.M. Schmid pearl shadow congress; Rob's Ulster pruner and his group of hunters; Padruig's group of hunters; ea42's Ulster hunters; ed's lovely horn handled IXL and Venture jacks; the Simmons jack in Lloyd's recently relocated group.

Duncan, us knife collectors think alike ! Looking forward to seeing the pictures of your recent arrivals, Roland has been passing some spectacular knives to you lately

P&G, love the EC KK :thumbsup: man it's a nice one!

Danno, glad you are out enjoying the lake:thumbsup: thanks for dropping in and commenting on everyone's recent postings.

Wow John, what a haul!!
That stainless number is a grail for me! those perfectly aged peach seed scales and the lines on those blades o_O :thumbsup:
The coppery wood on that Ulster is a dream, what’s the pile like if I might ask? Much of the same beauty I imagine!
The match of the Winch’ and K-K are undeniable, would the K-K be all-iron and the Winch’ made with some brass? Just wondering as their pins are the only difference I can spot.

Thanks Gus, the pile side is pretty nice on the Ulster. The Winchester and KK both have brass liners, only difference is the pins, both are hammered pins though.
