"Old Knives"

It is my opinion, that it seems,it'd be pretty challenging to collect older knives in excellent "uncleaned" condition,in the current modern day, with the internet there.I was told, that the internet made it possible for collectors to collect, but it seems now "they" have them & it is harder for newer collectors
If that makes any sense at all
But my hat's off to you guys; it is a great hobby & love

The best way to find excellent old knives is to cruise hawk shops, antique and curio-type stores, swap meets, garage sales, estate sales, auctions, etc. It may sound morbid, but in the US, we're living in an era when a vast swath of the population is growing old and dying (the baby boomers). We boomers grew up when every boy had a knife in his pocket.. Anyway, if you know where to look, there are more vintage knives out there today than ever before.

For some reason, I can't open any of the links in this thread. Does anybody know why? Am I doing something wrong?

I'll try to post some pics of my latest hawk shop find. Wonder if I'll be able to see them?

The black & white ad was sent to me by member DeSotoSky. He found it in the 1949 Buck Catalog. When I found this set, I figured it was either a prototype or a custom order because I'd never seen another like it, but it was a regular item back then. I believe Buck moved from the Morena house in 1960, so the stamp on the sheath would indicate this set was made sometime before that.

That BUCK set is quite the find, in terms of rarity. Good show! As far as finding anything worthwhile via the venues you mention, in my area, it is possible to find some worn-out hideous Chinese knives, but you never know... miracles do happen.
I suppose the area does make a difference. Because Buck was originally a San Diego company, I run into a lot of vintage bucks here. I find old 110s and others at nearly every swap meet and in every hawk shop. Old Ridged knives (also a San Diego Co.) are less common, and more expensive. The hawk shop I found the Buck set in also had a beautiful old Ridged Hunter (circa 1976). I couldn't afford both. They wanted more for the Ridged than they did for the Buck set, so, a no brainer. I just pray they still have the Ridgid when I go back for it.

I'm honoring the "out with the old" saying on today's out-going of 2021 by carrying an oldie, my Robeson #633594 strawberry bone stockman.

Really nice to see all of the familiar names around and still holding up the porch !! I am going to try and be more active this year, have not bought much anything new, but, have not sold any knives either. I need to figure out the best way to post my pictures on the updated site I reckon. 🙃 That snake scares me Jeff !!!🙀

Good seeing you post Primble, if you get a Gold membership which I think is 30 bucks a year pictures will be very easy to post. There will be an Attach Files button that allows you to select your photos, I pull mine off my Desktop.

May I pull your knives off of your desktop or would I just get the pictures?

Augie - That Primble Belknap Barlow was a nice find. Does not show much wear at all and the condition of the blade etch is a real bonus ! I guess I will pay up soon and make it easy on myself regarding the pictures.:) Thanks for the help !
