"Old Knives"

My first vintage Case Tested XX...

In pretty decent shape, the main blade looks to be close to it's full length (based on the length when closed in the well)...at least no cracks in the bone covers...some chips here and there though...the secondary was heavily used and it now looks like a sheepsfoot :D

First old knife that I've gotten in a while. No Keen Kutter on the tang. Just the following. Any help dating the knife would be greatly appreciated.
E.C.
Simmons
St. Louis

Very nice old knife, majorpain! I have two very similar, one stamped with the standard Simmons Keen Kutter stamp, and one stamped Simmons/Hardware/Co. I believe my ebony knife is a 2861, which Sellens says was in the Simmons catalogs between 1905 and 1916.
The EC Simmons and Simmons Hardware stamps (not the German ones) are ones that I am not really sure of. However, I am reasonably sure that your knife was made for Simmons by Walden sometime prior to 1923. It is also possible, but this is only speculation, that it may have been made prior to 1905, when the Keen Kutter wedge and bar stamp was first used.
