Shown on page 41 of the 1922 catalog with spear blade instead of clip, pattern 21356. 3.75 inches closed. One of my favorite Catt's.

The grind on the master on these two is fantastic.

Cal, that is one hang of a line up of Cattaraugus's my friend, absolutely what this Thread was made for, Thank you, I will be revisiting them to try and take them in.

greetings y'all, stepping out of my normal collection boundaries a bit of late and had a question.

Not to me.
My guess is it is a pre - late 1980's Schrade-Westholm IXL. I forget when Schrade bought Westholm. I think it was around 1988, when they moved production of Imperial to Ireland, after the old Imperial plant burned down.
Apparently, is was more cost effective (in the short term, anyway) to purchase a going Irish cutlery firm, and move production to Ireland, than to rebuild and re-equip the Providence, RI plant.

Bare in mind I am far from an expert on any and all Sheffield cutlery firms. 😇👍

Jack Black Jack Black our resident expert on most things Sheffield might know if there is any inconsistencies in the tang stamp.

At any rate, it looks like a very nice Barlow.

It kinda looks like the original I*X*L bolster stamp was partially worn away from overzealous buffing, and someone did a poor job of hand engraving to "restore" it.

If you don't mind my asking, is that your photo or from an ebay seller's listing? The red felt background raises red flags. You might want to ask in this thread:

that is from the seller. was trying to get an idea as ive seen these ixl barlows but havent seen one that worn away. i was told sometimes the stamp wasnt that deep but the scratching seemed very off

Just one more in the batch of used and new knives my high school buddy gifted to me about three years back, and I'm finally getting around to cleaning it up some.

STILETTO
CUTLERY Co
NEW YORK

This has to be the grimiest knife I've cleaned up to date. No rust... too much grease and grime in and on it to allow moisture in. Ha! Even the deposits of pocket lint were oil-soaked. But hey, the wood scales seem well preserved. The main blade backspring is shot, so only one useable blade left, but that little pen has a very firm pull and a solid half-stop. With steel rivets & liners, and measuring in at 3-1/4" closed, this jack rides quite comfortably in the front or watch pocket of my jeans.

On-line information regarding this brand seems nearly non-existent. Any information you folks might share would be really appreciated.

And I typically take my project knives for a test run in nature before they find their spot in the knife roll or on the shelf once again.
