"Old Knives"

Not my knife. Saw it on the interwebs this morning. Interesting brass pruner.
Gnarly-looking pruner, Cal!!! o_O Can you see the brand/trademark???

Here are two Taylor Eye Witness knives, both good quality, but completely different finishing!! The utility jack is crudely fitted but quite useful, with good action!!!
The Stag English Jack is exquisite!! Both have stamped blades!!Taylor pair 1.jpg

Yes; the gold swirl is beautiful. I have many celluloid handled knives and have only seen gassing in a few online and only two that I have owned. In both cases they had stabilized, for the time being, but I sent them to other climes. 1950s certain Schrade Walden yellows, and a number of Western States in "mother of toilet seat." Bad ones.

Maybe it was bad luck, but I have had at least ten (10) celluloid handled knives go off on me over the years!! Case replaced 2 sets of handles on melon testers years ago under warranty!! I have rehandled other knives at some cost!!! The only material I trust fairly comfortably is french ivory - never seen one fail!! I just pass on everything else if it's offered to me!!!

My impression is that this is abalone pearl. I believe the other Remingtons would have been called a different color. I will look about a bit.

I have two or three celluloid handled Schrade CutCos with a similar color to the above Remingtons; I am not sure I can come up with a color.

Both of those are abalone pearl celluloid. According to BRL, the color is noted along with the abalone pearl celluloid. The second one is brown or golden abalone pearl celluloid. See post #4 here:
