"Old Knives"

I also got these two little Ulsters recently. They’re far from mint, but the blades are mostly full, and they both have good looking jigged bone. The gent’s knife is 3 1/8” closed.

There’s a faint etch remaining on the main blade. It’s easier to see it in person and a bit tough to capture in a photo, so I made a little visual aid. 😁

I found this equal end jack at the Badger show this past weekend. It’s 3 3/8” closed.

That is some rich looking bone. 👍

Here are a couple new-to-me old fixed blade knives from Imperial and Remington, both with jigged bone handles.

I haven’t found any info on the cursive Imperial stamp (though I also haven’t dug that deep yet), but I sure do like the way it looks.

The Remington is stamped “Remington DuPont” which I believe dates it between 1933 and 1940, and the model number, “RH-4”.

No sheath with the Imperial, unfortunately, but the Remington has one. It’s not in the best shape, but still in one piece, and you can still slightly see the “Remington UMC” embossed on the leather.

Love that cursive Imperial!

That Ulster gent’s is a gem.

I snagged this one; it's definitely old, as I've never seen a tang like that on a new one. I can't quite make out the inscription on the tang; I definitely see Sheffield

Someone cut too much rust off a grinder:(

I wonder what the practical purpose of such an open tang, with a visible gap between the blade and the spring, was? Garden knives typically have an extended front side of the handle to increase the blade's support under lateral load, as example on the Tina and the Victorinox Floral

Looks like the tang is "soft" and wearing out, and the worn edge is keeping the blade from meeting the spring at a flush interface!!

An elderly Solingen Boker true whittler @ 3 3/8 inches closed. Some oxidation but I don't see any evidence of sharpening. I sure would like to have been able to watch those fellows hand jigging bone and cutting out a niche for a shield.... all by hand. They used some kind of little drill like was sometimes used to start a fire back in the day. Held one end between the teeth and pulled a cord back and forth or something like that.
