Eagle Phila. I can just make out what is left of part of the original NYKC tang stamp. Blades are in original factory finish, unsharpened. I can't see why it was determined to be a second, NYKC must have had high standards.

I posted a Maher & Grosh Surveyor knife a while back and while searching for information on the knife, I found an old 1895 advertisement for a "Colorado Stock Knife" which appears to be built with the same die.

Here's a photo of the knife

I've only seen one other example of the pattern but unfortunately I was outbid on the knife. It's stamped Kelley Hdw Thomason Conn.

And here's a scan of the Maher & Grosh advertisement that shows the Colorado Stock Knife:

The Colorado stock knife has a clip, a massive sheepfoot and a pen blade. The pen blade is mostly hidden by the main blade in the advertisement. Here's an 1891 advertisement that better shows the pen blade.

I haven't seen a three blade Surveyor pattern that was intact but the pattern is fairly rare from what I understand. If you have one, please post photos! :) I did find a broken Maher & Grosh Surveyor and it is hopefully in the mail to me now. It's not much use as a knife but I wanted to see it and sometime down the road I may come up with the cash to use it as a pattern for a custom.

Hmmm... two pins? The artist rendering in the ad also shows two pins.

Edit: I found two other examples of Maher & Grosh Colorado Stock Knives from searching a database of old auction items. Here are some photos. The blades look a bit different then the blades in the old advertisements. The example with celluloid handles appears to have the handles attached with screws. The auction description says that it has a brass liner over the backsprings. The stag handle on the second example is a replacement.

Edit again: I found another example. This one has an intact blade etch!

I like the match strike long pull on your one, in its glory days I bet it was an amazing knife aesthetically.

The pulls and swedges are very nice. The blades on the two blade Surveyor are ridiculously sharp too. Someone took very good care of the knife. I like the blades on the Colorado stock knife in the advertisement much better than the ones in the auction photos -- I especially like that massive sheepfoot blade.

Another thing that's striking about the knife is the shape of the handle and how comfortable it is in the hand.

The other example that you found with what looks like smooth bone handles appears to be a Miller Bros product.

I have some of those Maher & Grosh ads, too, and I have always liked that Colorado Stock Knife.

This Ulster 3 5/8" dogleg jack in ebony is in pretty good shape with fairly full blades. It has an unusual shield...the first of these that Tony has seen. Also notice the fully rounded handles and fancy rattail bolsters/caps. NICE!

Kerry, That's a helluva knife!! Shield is amazing, bolster and
cap looks schweeeet. I don't think I've ever seen a fluted cap
that's attention to detail right there. Thanks for sharing
this beauty...

Very cool dogleg Ulster Kerry, Thanks for sharing!

I have used a close relative to that shield one time. Very unique to say the least.

That could be the Ultimate Dogleg!! Rat-tails at both ends, amazing shield, and a great silhouette!
Lucky Old Dog!!

This is a old Kinfolks. No idea how old it is, it has no model number on it. Its had a hard life. You cant see in the pics but it looks like someone took a sander to the blade. I gotta get a sheath made then it will be going into the woods with me this fall.

My son also has an old Kinfolks. His is getting a sheath at the moment.

That is one absolute stunning knife, man...I cant believe how lucky you are to own that beauty!

Thanks for showing the Ulster Kerry, it's a DYNAMO! Just a gorgeous knife.

Bulldog USA has used a somewhat similar shield which has been referred to as a "double bomb" shield.

I would kill to find a dogleg like that, great score! the shield takes it to a whole new level.
