"Old Knives"

Unfortunately most of the markings are worn off, but they appear to all be Robesons.

Jason, that one's a beaut (unlike your usual crappy knives). ;) Hope you're well dude.

I picked up this A.W. Wadsworth & Son Germany a couple months ago. It has clearly been cleaned but the blades are full and all three blades have an incredible snap! I will work on building its patina.
What is the size of this knife? It's similar to the case 80 or the different carpenter whittlers.

1st post Hello Everybody

A knife I got recently, I believe it dates to 1940's - 50's. The bone scales look and feel great although one side is a bit darker than the other. Fittings are brass and the shield is pinned.

Hi Mike,

That is a really nice cattle knife! Judging from the gouges in the blade someone had taken to it with a pedestal grinder? even with that its a great knife with really nice looking bone.

Thanks Robert, you are right about the grinder, it always makes me so angry, it looked even worse before some light treatment I gave the knife.

Me too, I have seen some very sort after knives at shows and on the bay that were practically worthless because of the grinder treatment...you brought this one back to life and did a great job on it!

Seeing those easyopens isnt helping things, Duncan! :D Great images, is that a lambs foot blade on that one with the hoof pick?

Old family knife, I think it belonged to my grandfather. Took off a gorgeous patina with steel wool before I knew what I was doing. Might have to cut up some onions to put it back on :P

Heya Rob,
They dont help me either my friend, as soon as I get one, I need another :o, the blade that you see is the main, and it has a lovely big swedge, and yes...a large version of one, I was lucky enough to obtain my latest e/o from Jason, our regular forum member who make us so jealous with his contribution of photos of his stunning knives , and bloody great guy, its a Boker U.S.A, and has the nicest coloured bone with lovely jigging.
The black and white photo is my great Uncle, I was named after him, his name was Duncan Campbell, I wish I knew this man, the two medals you see are solid gold, and are his, I am the last male in line, and my daughters as of yet do not appreciate the preciousness of these, the engraving is simply stunning.

All great knives and the medals look like they would have been worn on a fob chain of some sort...really interesting pieces! I'm sure in time they'll come to appreciate them, in youth we tend to disregard a lot our parents and grandparents value.

I should own the watch an chain this day, after his death the family vultures swooped, and it went missing. With that as a child I remember my Mum and Dad selling Uncle Duncans war medals...man did I perform...but to no avail..they still sold them...I find this hard to accept, especially when I think what little they would have got for them compared to how much I would give for them....we just have to let things go when its impossible to reach...Im working on that one :o
