"Old Knives"

Jake I REALLY like that 3 blade Sowbelly! and of course that 2 blade as well. Nice
pick-ups buddy! I dig those old Remington knives.

Nice Remington Jake! Does the coining wrap around the ends of the center liner? If they stop at some point before , is there a defined line to mark the end of the coining?

Here's a pen knife I grabbed at a gun show recently. Kind of interesting in that it has a Remington master blade with the PAL shield. According to Bernard Levine Remington reluctantly allowed Pal to use up the old blades that they got with the purchase from DuPont. The fact that the shield is mounted incorrectly leads me to believe it could be a lunch box knife made up by and employee of Pal. The bone is perfect, the shield is pinned through the liner.

Best regards

It`s not mounted incorrectly. Just turn it to the left a little bit to straighten it out. I have had several over the years that turned to the left or right from use and abuse;)

Thanks!

Ken, Yesterday I read your post in the maker's area about coining the scales --neat stuff. The 2-blade is coined on both scales but the 3-blade is coined only on the center scale. It seems they coined the scales after the bolsters were attached since the 2-blade has a little bit of runoff. The coining doesn't wrap around. The coining is only what's visible in the photo. On the 2-blade, the coining stops a little bit before the end of the spring. On the 3-blade, it ends with the spey/sheepfoot spring on the spey side and trails off a little earlier on the sheepfoot side.

I usually don't have anything decent enough to post here, but I liked this one I picked up at the flea market today.

The shield hasn't moved from it's slightly crooked position, there is a tiny original dig in the shield and the bone has been fitted to the ding. According to Bernard Levine the shield should read along the length of the handle, if this is the case its Way off ;-))

The employee could have had a V8. ;) Neat knife, Robin. Beautiful old Remington bone.

Thanks Jake I love this little knife. It was marked $45.00 at the gun show which I was considering when the guy said "how about $15.00 ";-))). I sure wish I had seen that pretty whittler you just sold before it sold.

A great, rare Jack, Glenn! One bad boy!!

Thanks! I was quite shocked to see anything like it at the flea market. Most of the stuff I usually see is all broken down Imperials and Colonials, or chinese junk.

BTW, I also scored this, although it's a little rougher than the NEK...

(Got both for $20 total)

You were reluctant to post that MILLER BROS with the beautiful bone handles?!?! ;) ...the handle screws haven't even worn flat yet!

It's not that pretty, LOL. The liner under one side has some rust issues, and one of the screws on the other side is buggered up and gone. She still snaps like a bear trap though!

I guess if it's got your seal of approval, then it was worth posting.

Seems as if you don't like it very much....I'll take it off your hands. So you don't have to see it ever again. ;)

I don`t recall seeing a round shield turned to read along the length of the handle on an old knife. A bar or gimp shield reads horizontally but not a round shield to my recollection.

The ding you are seeing in the bone is probably why the shield moved, could have been dropped or struck with something.
