I think this qualifies as an old knife. This acorn shield Remington (R3153) dates from 1924-1933. It belonged originally to my great-grandfather. The match safe was his as well. The lead soldiers belonged to my Father.

The acorn shield during this time period was used almost exclusively on knives with awls.

The main blade is a spearpoint design with a long pull and very nice swedge. The color of the bone resembles warm caramel...just a wonderful color.

Just posted in Grandfather's knife thread, found out it is from 1924-1933,
So I guess it qualifies also.

Nice grizzled old Remingtons folks! The Remington name still invokes thoughts of reliable quality in me. The old ones are great!!
I've always liked the name Norfolk! Here's a pre-WWII Schrade Norfolk Jack, with one of the few cell handles I've allowed myself. Stuff worries me a bit, but it sure is pretty!!

Another beauty Charlie, is it true, the stuff is combustible or something like that ?

Charlie,

When are you going to bust out those scans of your newest Empire?
Haven't picked it up from the post office yet, Mike. Probably won't get there 'till wednesday!:grumpy:

I never find anything of great value from yard sales but I managed to pick all of these up from one sale about 3 weeks ago. Universal LF&C camp knife and fork, Holmburg Barrel knife, Winchester 3907 NIB, and my favorite, W. L Marbles fish knife. I haven't had any free time to hit yard sales since but hope to get out and dig up some more old blades soon.

All nice though Randy. The Marble's looks like it has some type of collector value.I've never seen one.
I've seen quite a few Wichesters like yours, but the bone on that one is pretty.Great catches!

Thanks Vince..I was able to search ebay and find a marbles like it. I still cant find much on the LF&C knife/fork combo so if you find anything let me know...

Just for Mike!

The etch, "EMPIRE(crown)BRAND" is quite readable, but difficult to scan. This is the best of 6 attempts at different angles. The knife has a flaw, a piece of the nick is chipped on the pen blade, but the knife is so spectacular, I will keep it!
The snap is an 8.5 on the richter scale:eek: and the blades are full despite the clumsy attempts at sharpening. Some of you sharper eyed knife-nerds will have noticed the double-stamping.:D! Beautiful flawless ebony, and an old banner shield cap it off.
A nice old example from a venerable, but often ignored company.

Uhhhhh....ya got me with the knife-nerd thing. Guilty as charged, but only because that's something I have to work hard at NOT doing...double stamping that is.

That's a beauty! Now just look at how the ebony has stood up to the test of time. Anyone that poopoos ebony as a handle material only needs to look at some old knives to see how wonderful it is.

Great knife waynorth, these swedges on your knives are beautiful, just the every knife you show here.
BTW, the main blade of my second sak looks just about as bad. (with the scratches that is ;))

Peter

ps: if you decide not to keep it because of the chipped nail-nick... just kidding - great knife you got there.

Every day
Really big flat wide scales but handle only 3/8 " thick, nice and slim ,
10 1/2 " OAL. Check out that Cat jigging. They really knew how to work bone. Love the old logo on the sheath. Pretty clean unused knife.

Great Catt, Vince. It is amazing to see that vast expanse of jigged bone, so nicely done. Cool sheath too!

I haven't checked this thread for a while. Charlie, that sure is a nice Empire. Glad it went to a good home since it didn't come to my home. Thanks for the great scans.

I agree 100%. Modern makers pay attention. "If you make them-they will sell."

More ebony, just because! A real nice snappy Ulster, fished from the 'bay. The scratches belong to the scanner. Gotta love these balloon jacks. So shapely. This one feels good in the hand.
