I went in and added the "/" for you. The second time you put in the "img" you have to have it look like this: [/img]

I'll try this again, here's a Schatt and Morgan that I just picked up last week,it's pretty rough but it's the first one.

Your pics & posts have made this thread

Here are some old knives, small ones
The wood one is a Keen Kutter, you can see the scales shrunk
The whittler pattern is marked FC&Co could it be LF&C ? The small blade on that one is thin as a razor blade,it flexes,I've never seen that before
The really worn to the nub oldie is a Remington,I'd say it's authentic,no one could fake that look of it & the pretty one is a Cattaraugus

Buffalo skinners back in the day were used to skin....uh...buffalo, but other critters as well. Most cutlers made them and here are some fine examples of old and reproduced skinners. Most of them were about the same size and shape with 6" to 8" blades and similar handle shapes. Hand forged examples of buffalo skinners will generally have tapered full tangs. Tapered tangs and steel pins are dead giveaways for very old vintage knives.

The top one here looks like the mark says "N CHAPMAN" with half tang and handle screws. The middle one is a Russell & Co, Green River Works with typical 5 steel handle pins. The bottom one is a reproduction Russell

Top is I.F.W. and Sons, Middle is a I. Wilson(famous Sheffield maker), Bottom one is not too old and a Victorinox brand.

Nice knives, Kerry. Tough to keep 'em straight in yer head though........

I posted these some time back, maybe in a different forum. I managed to corral some Schrades from the disassembled Factory collection. Most are pre-WWII, with some pre-WWI.

I haven't posted any lately because I have not bought any in a while - something to do with keeping the wife happy by saving every penny for a very expensive vacation that we have planned for this year. But this Southington went for so little on fleabay that I couldn't resist it. It is well used but still solid, and I like the pattern.

Smiling Knife - The teardrop pattern seems to be an American design; I don't think I have ever seen an example from a Sheffield maker. Have you?

Charlie - What is the story behind your Avatar?

Glad you like them, Vince. This is a great thread you've got going here!!
Those Schrades are getting used to the Igloo, stroker!;) I think I'll keep them up here a while.
John, I bought that picture on the Bay, on a whim, from a seller in Texas, and did a blow up of it, and put it on my table at the Oregon show last year. I had everyone convinced it was a picture of Bill Ruple when he was a child!! He even believed it for a few minutes!!!:D:D:D
The boy in the pic has such a baleful expression, I've captioned it - "when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers!"!
His pocket knife is as big as his foot:eek:!!!
It's not that clear, so I'll probably change it soon.

That's one small boy! Notice he's sitting on a cigar box!!!

That's a great image. Looks like ivory, 2 blade, ????

No worries, Charlie. I'll hook you up with a new avatar.

All of those are very nice, but I really like that stag Schrade.

I like that Southington too.

I think it's a super-premium stockman, Kerry!:D
Could be ivory, but it's hard to tell. Bill couldn't remember:D:D!

Mike Robuck; "No worries, Charlie. I'll hook you up with a new avatar."

I can't tell if that's a kind offer or a threat. Mike:eek::eek:!:D:D:D

Yea..who knows what horrid misfit avatar Mike has in store for you. The thought made chills go up and down my spine.:p

Great knives guys. Lambertiana, I really like that old knife of yours. You may very well be right. I don't recall seeing a Sheffield tear drop jack. I'd love to be proven wrong though.
