"Old Knives"

Droolin' on the keyboard. Mighty fine!

Looks great Duncan. Did not know you had all those skills:D

Any idea of what this blade profile was intended for? Looks a bit like a butter knife but I am pretty sure that was not the original purpose!

It's been a while since I've contributed something to this great thread. Here's a very old 1860 - 1875 J. Ward & Co Bronxville New York single blade, Ivory scales and nice flat beveled bolsters. 3 3/4" closed

Camillus New York USA with bone handles, model 72, circa 1950's;)

Does your 72 have a pen blade? Only in 1946 did they offer it with a pen and coping blade I believe. After that the blades were coping blade and small clip.

Mine has the short line under Camillus stamp, however, clip and coping blades. I will open them up for some additional photos , today, if possible.:)

Does this Camillus have a split backspring, or two full ones, like a stockman?

And would this be called a stockman whittler, with it's blade configuration?

I believe it is a whittler pattern and it does has two full backsprings. This photo reveals the sabre ground main blade a little better.

With this blade configuration, I can see how it very well could be called a stockman whittler, but, I am not expert enough to settle that for you.

The light is not cooperating this morning, however, I will get the blades open on the Primble 912 today and try to post blade open photos.;)
