"Old Knives"

This one is posted elsewhere but here's a real purdy Queen barlow from the era when the company used "Queen City" as their tang stamp, 1922-1945.

^^^ Yes sir, other than that chip at the bottom of the cover in the first pic it's in darn near perfect condition.

Ok, so this one isn't that old (1970-ish), and it's a novelty item, but I thought I'd post it for fun. Anyone familiar with these?

Not an expensive item, for sure - but I had never seen one until I found this one with my dad's old fishing stuff.

According to Levines IV this would date 1858-1901. Slater Brothers (Beehive) 4 blade shadow carved pearl covers, great condition with a mystery hole on pile side.

I just picked up this neat German made John Primble. What a cool nice deep etch it has. Oh man how I wish that blade wasn't broken!

I have a slightly more downmarket version of the slate brothers knife above, the same pattern, MOP covers, no carving or filework, it is 'Harrison Bros & Howson' Sheffield, I'd be grateful if anyone could give it a date, it is in excellent unused condition:

Are there any other markings besides Harrison Brothers & Howson? There are several variations and dates attributable to this maker. The broad stroke would be c. 1847-1963

Almost forgot, Nice Knife;)

cheers, there are no other markings, just the tang stamps on all 4 blades as in the photos above, and the biggest blade has 'Sheffield' stamped on the other side of the tang.

Everyone ! >>>>> Wonderful contributions , making this thread Top Shelf . Thank You All

Thanks, I was pleased with how well it is put together. You really need to make a sunk joint. ;)

That is a nice patterned Robeson.

They made a larger and similarly shaped jack,

As interesting as the two knives look, they are appreciated more when opened and held in one's hand for use.

They just "fit". They seem to disappear into one's palm and feel almost like an extension of the hand, instead of something added.

Sounds weird, I know, I think you'd just have to hold one to understand.
