"Old Knives"

It's my fault that we got side tracked. Sorry. I thought I saw some similarity to the Utica knives and was thinking out loud about what factories may have produced it. Winchester bought up several companies. It reminded me a bit of the Utica knives but there are also differences. It is not my intention to question the authenticity.

The Wards knife is a nice knife. Looking back on my posts, I thought the Wards knife may have been Utica when I purchased it but I didn't know for sure and I'm still not. There was some discussion on the forum. I bought the knife because I liked the bone and the shield was awesome. It's a nice knife.... whoever made it. And like Jeff said, it was worth the money to me. I think I paid quite a bit more it than I asked when I sold it. But I had other stuff that I needed to pay for. It was a favorite carry for a while.

Jake "It is not my intention to question the authenticity."
I did not think that you were. That you were 'thinking out loud' was how it seemed.
I like to have the authenticity questioned if someone knowledgeable sees something that might not be 'right'. I'm not attached to a knife being what it says it is. I'm attached to knowing accurately exactly what a knife is.
This might seem 'over-blown' by some but 're-works' 'fakes' abound 'out there' especially for USA manufactured folding knives. Many of these are very well done and may have been done over 50 years ago. It is necessary to be very careful buying vintage USA folders that are in close to minty condition. By questioning each other, we all learn more of what to look for in spotting fakes.

I think that with the questions coming from KJ showing his beautiful Winchester- is exactly what this old knives Thread is all about - - a reference to Utica and the possible relationship with wards pipped up - a Wards popped up for comparison.... and I have enjoyed everyone's comments and help, Jake- I was hoping you would say something about the previous ownership - the knives I have from you I cherish. Brad- again my friend your help is great and the possibility of the Wards being a Winchester is an interesting one - I would say whoever made the Henry Sears, and my knife - they are the same.

I think that we all know each other well enough to be able to ask on how each of us came to the opinion of a knife - its what it's all about!
Thank you for showing the knives Catalogs and the fantastic help - I think i desperately need to visit the old Catalog Sticky.

Duncan my friend I could not agree with you more. I have always felt that the Old Knives thread was a thread for learning. Well stated!

Sounds good, guys!

I received the Stanley and Keen Kutter knives today. What a treat!! I was soooo tired today but I managed to give them some CE and CF. :D I wasn't sure what to expect with the Stanley. It turns out that the folding mechanism is a slip joint. It even has a half stop. And the Keen Kutter knives have me grinning ear to ear. I always enjoy finding old knives before they've gone through Kentucky. ;) The blades are full and some of them have never been sharpened. All 3 have etches though it's faint on one of them.

Ivory Knife
It has been a while since I posted on this thread and I hope I am not interrupting anything. BUT I had to show somebody this unusual knife I picked up this week. I assume it to be ivory and it works well with lots of snap. I guess it is a fruit knife ??

Wow! That is so cool ADEE, very nice find, I didn't realise it was ALL ivory, well except the pins!

Thank you for the kind words gents .. It is an amazing piece and weighs nothing. It must be old. I feel that I have seen a photo of something like it somewhere, perhaps on this forum.

Thank You Brad Sir. Also a massive thank you for your helping me and others with your contribution 🔪👍

I am falling heavier and heavier for those old Scout knives.
Just fantastic knives.

ADEE, the spring is ivory too and it has "lots of snap". I would never have thought that ivory has any flex to it or 'elastic recoil', but it must have because your knife snaps. Amazes me !

Very nice sir

I'm still marvelling at that ivory spring!

Few I picked up yesterday.

Another Sheldon Knife, this time by Wade & Butcher.

Ibberson.

John Watts.

I think these two are German, inter-war? Sunken joints on both.

Any thoughts on this old Wostenholm?
