"Old Knives"

I was talking to a friend of mine that I went to school with back in the 1960s.
Her younger brother was there also. (he's now 59 years old)
We of course brought up knives. He went into his house and brought out this old Camco (Camillus) 401 Camp knife that he said he used went he was in the boy scouts.

Yep, this is the way I got it from him.

I told him it looked nice, but I thought I could make it work again. :)

I added natural camel bone covers to it.
I could barely open it before. It now has the snap of a new knife on all four blades.

I like the look of the natural camel bone on it.

This Camp knife really took a nice edge too.

Old Camillus-marked knives don't get enough respect IMO.
That's a great swell-center pen example Glenn! I like your old Rope knife too, Joe!
Here is a big Jack, 4 3/8", from the same curved-stamp era.

Heavy patina, but barely used and still snappy. . . . .

Now that's a purdy tang stamp, real nice typography! Anyone know what font Camillus used on their 4 line stamp and curved stamp?

I'm totin' this old Cattaraugus dogleg jack today

Very nice old Catt with full blades !!:thumbup::)

That pic bears repeating! My goodness! Meanwhile, I have a question for you: The Primble stockman knives with a 'star' on the tang... Does that mean Boker U.S.A.?

Yes sir. If a Primble knife has a star on the tang, it was manufactured by Boker. :)

Charlie C. - that is one fine old Camillus ! Love the patina, especially the bolster patina !!!:thumbup::thumbup::) Oil the joints my friend. ;):eek::D

Stump
Great job on your friends knife indeed!! The camel bone really looks good on it:thumbup::thumbup:

Charlie
A super fine specimen and a treat to see!! Thank you:D

Great save of a fine knife. Is the little brother getting it back?

Nice mod on the Camillus, Stumps!

And Charlie, that Camillus jack is sweet. Proof that a knife doesn't need a lot of flash to be a great knife.

Stumps, great save on the Camp knife looks great.

Charlie, love the Camillus, rather have it that way than over buffed.

Got another old one this week in nice shape, Electric Cutlery Co easy open jack, has had little to no use, full blades, really stunning bone. I do think it has been cleaned some. As far as I know dates from 1920 or before.

Beautiful Electric Augie ! The Walden, N.Y. tang stamp knives were made at the New York Knife Company factory.

WOW Stumps, great job on the old camp knife......And that Electric Co. Augie, how nice.....

I picked this one up with another knife, and it had some deep pits, but I managed to get the surface nice again...Well,nice
as Im gonna get it I guess......Hope you guys don't think I over cleaned?.....the patina will come back, but that rust was just
too ugly.....
What's my Verdict on the cleaning?...Im just learning now...JD

I think it looks really good. Been building a small Pal collection myself. Nice knife.

Augie, Those Electric Cut Co knives had some great jigged bone. Here's an old photo of another one with similar bone handles.

Jake this is fantastic knife, modern knives as good they are will never reach this level of beauty and craftsmanship.
JD, I think you did what need to be done considering the rust, it came out very well, not the artificial shine you see on ebay fakes. I think you can leave it as it is, or add some patina if you like. Anyway great find.
