"Old Knives"

Speaking of Robesons, I thought I read somewhere that this old Filmore has some Robeson roots as an import for them.If this is already posted here please excuse my poor memory.

navihawk, That's sure a nice old knife. Could you please tell me if the pins are magnetic and the bar shield. They look to be nickle silver but I can't tell for sure from a pic.

The old bone on these knives is outragous...thanks for posting them.

Here is the Cattaraugus Yukon “King of the Woods” in the closed position.

Darrell Parker and Duckman, those long Catt Jacks are to die for!! Just beautiful!!

I posted this IXL Horseman's knife and there was some question if the scales were original. In the pix there appears to be tool marks around the pins. The pins stand proud of the scales like some peened pins. Perhaps they were just dressed with a spinner? I don't know. But I'm certain the Scales are original to the knife. Here also is an old IXL Whittler 1890-1920 with what looks like to have nickle silver pins and shield I borrowed these pix from John Nugent hope he doesn't mind and I Thank him. This knife also looks to have tool marks around the pins. I don't know if they are peened or peened and dressed. Nickle Silver or Iron. Maybe John knows? The Horseman's knife has NS pins and Iron pins together with a NS shield. These knives look to be made around the same period of time.

Hi dp. the pins are brass and the shield is silver or nickel silver, and pinned. I tend to believe it is silver because it is so white.I doubt it's white gold but who knows.

Thanks navihawk I thought the pins were brass but didn't know for sure. The pins looked to be formed I don't if they are hand formed but I think they are. Nickle Silver became widely used in cutlery in about 1835 but not all cutlery companies used it because of cost. I suspect your shield is NS. As I stated before you have a great old old knife...

Just looking at it now and they are or look hand peened. here's another picture.whoever had it took good care of it or it sat in a drawer.

Man that's a dandy Kerry is that yours are Tony's? Horn Scales and no Bug bites for a knife that old is amazing. Just a guess but the bolsters And shield look to be NS? Brass liners and Scale pins with a NS center pin? You don't see many Gun stock patterns or I don't. Thanks for posting...

Kerry my old Horseman's knife looks the way it does is because I cleaned it. Yes It's me that terrible SOB that cleans his knives if he wants to. I don't Buff them and burn all the corners off like some mine are hand cleaned. These are mine not for sale and I'm damn sure not trying force them on any one. I rebuild tangs or do other things to restore old knives of my own. It's a helluva lot of fun to bring them back from the grave for me...

Im pretty sure the bolsters and shield are N/S and you are correct about the pins as well. The knife belongs to friends of Tony's.

duckman, Man that knife is a USA Man style worker. I really like the whole knife. The long pull saber swedged blade is my favorite along with the ebony scales. Congrats on that one...
