"Old Knives"

The Frost factory also produced knives using the brand name "Mora Knivfabrik". *This knife is likely from the 1930s or 1940s. laminated blade is 3 mm thick

That appears to be a very small Mora knife?

Or he's got HUGE hands. :D

Thanks for showing the Soviet era knives, Rostovsky. One of the things I like about this thread is the chance to see knives from around the world that I would never find in person.

Yes, this is one of the smaller Mora knives made in Sweden. This is most likely the WW2. This is indicated by a sheath made of rubberized cardboard. Don't know how to say it correctly. Whole animal skin was at the time for military purposes and sheaths for knives made of vulcanised cardboard. These knives soldiers used for cooking only for myself, the knives fit easily in a pocket or in a soldier's pot. My hand is normal. Knives the USSR will still be a lot, no time to take pictures.

Take all the time you need, it's an interesting subject and nobody's in a rush. I trust you'll find some more of those classic knives and document them for posterity as time allows. Thank you for sharing!

I just got this Simmons penknife today. It has problems but it just drew my eye.

I could use some help in confirming/determining the manufactured date, etc.

Both blades have the same tang stamps. I looked it up in Goins and it appears to me that it was made in Germany between 1890 - 1915. Am I correct in my assumptions? I appreciate any help I can get on this.

Dean, nice Hornet! High quality knives and one of my favorite tang stamps. Those covers are gorgeous. I would place it in the early end of that timeframe.

Thank you Jamie, Gev and Duncan. Sometimes a knife just speaks to you (metaphorically, not really - that would be like crazy). :)

Dean Fantastic and weird tang-stamp on that Simmons. Rich fruit cake like Stag on that and lot of quality with totally sunk-joints and Tip bolsters. It may have ´problems´but it's a fine knife to have.

Thanks, Will

Thank you, Will. I usually don't go for stag knives (this will be my second), but I really like the look and feel of this one. It's going to be in my pocket for awhile. Until you pointed out the sunk-joints, I had not specifically noticed - another plus.

There is a very small X on the handle of the Pruner. I imagine Anse Hatfield will be along shortly to claim it. ;):D
