"Old Knives"

There is a very small X on the handle of the Pruner. I imagine Anse Hatfield will be along shortly to claim it. ;):D

Love the composition! I think that is a McCoy mark:eek::eek:

Beautiful Camillus, Steve! One of the nicer examples of that Rodgers-like bone they produced.
By the way, that pattern is more correctly called a Cattle knife.

Was just able to find a couple today that I can now take off my Bucket List , but I would appreciate any help on dating these please.
First one = John Primble , 5373 Star ,
Belknap
HDW & Mfg Co

Second one = Cattaraugus 4 1/2 inch Linerlock ( now 4 3/8 inch ) , Jigged Bone with either Worm Track or Indian Trail ??? Similar to an 11849 Hunter's Pride without lined bolster. With Propeller Shield.

Both knives have tight covers , good snap , and appear to be original pins.
Thanks in advance of any help
Will post additional pictures after cleaning up.

Harry

You should know as much, Mr. Primble. And for your information, the Hatfields were known to use an "X" as their Mark. So, you seem to be at it once again, Mr. Primble.

Ohh no !!! That Mathias guy is back !!!:eek::D

Harry,

The John Primble Belknap HDW. & MFG. Co. knife was made by Boker, between 1940-1968. ;):)

The Indian trail liner lock was made between 1886-1963. If the handle and center pins are all hammered (and they appear to be in your pics), most likely pre WWII. Hard to date Catts, otherwise. :)

I have also noticed that in the later years, the indian trail grooves were missing from many of the bone models - not so much in their heyday ! ;)

I believe Indian Trail jigging, as opposed to worm groove jigging, is the most appropriate name for the jigging on a Cattaraugus knife. After all, their logos and models included American Indians. ;)

As an example, notice that the two Catts with hammered center pins have Indian Trail jigging and the spun center pin on the top Catt reveals the missing Indian Trail.

Beautiful bone on the Catt.:)

Smiling knife - a beauty ! :thumbup::)

Nice Cubby knife too !:)

And this right here is why I don't have too much to say in this thread. I know a little stuff about some things, but you guys amaze me with your knowledge.
I will have to be content with just sitting back and watching. ;)

There are not that many of us that post regularly in this thread. I have dug up as much info as I can on the knives which I collect the most, so I know a little more about those brands.

If you have old knives to post, please do so. :)

My first and probably only Cub Scout knife. Camillus.

Jerry, that is a mighty fine Camillus scout you have there Sir!!:thumbup: Thanks for sharing it with us.

Harry

Two wonderful pieces. I really like that shield on the Belknap. The liner lock Catt is a real goose:D I hope to find one one day myself. Great score!!

Primble
That trio is just outstanding! The center piece lights my fire:D
