"Old Knives"

Drew, that Catt is really really nice buddy. Wonderful condition.

Lately I can't seem to shake a real liking for these vintage Pruners and if its a CASE vintage redbone, well then my goose is cooked:o:D

I mean these Pruners command a lot of real estate cover wise and when it's Case red bone...well nuff said;) the top one just arrived today and the bottom one last week. The top shows a bit more use but with such a big blade I certainly won't use it up any time soon.

CASE XX era.

Oh those reds are fabulous, Paul!! I could look at those for hours. What a pleasure to trim the roses with :D

Paul, great examples of lovely vintage red bone. Always got time to look at some old case red bone.

Total drool fest! That bone is fantastic.:thumbup:

Any thoughts on why the newer looking one has a shorter blade?

Paul those are some beautiful old pruners. Case red bone at its finest.

Nice, Paul you know I love those curves.

Oh Man!!!!

Awesome knives Paul, Case old red bone is the best, especially when it is a little bit worn.

Double Dang Paul! What a cool addition to any collection, those are beautiful!

Ron, Lyle, Duncan, Gev, Robert, Mike, Drew and Jeff...Thank you Guys, I appreciate your comments:thumbup:

Duncan, I have you to blame for my new found passion my friend:)

Jeff, I wish I had and answer as I noticed the very same thing upon inspection. Clearly short of the well when closed and when looking closer I do think it was altered. I notice the amount of blade above the nail Nick where the swage is/was that the newer looking of the two is minus the swage, therefore the amount of steel above the Nick is less.

Pretty sure someone (for some unknown reason) did a really good job of shorting the blade both in length and height.

Now with that said, I could be totally wrong:o I'm going to look at more vintage Pruners and see of there where actually different blades over the years:thumbup:

Picked up this Ulster/Imperial Barlow last winter. I can't seem to find much info online about it, nor have I seen pics of any that match exactly...though I am far from being very knowledgeable anyway. The tang stamp appears as if it were stamped more than once, going by the way the word "Imperial" looks to be somewhat on top of the word "Knife". The tang stamp reads:
ULSTER
KNIFE
IMPERIAL
PROV USA (? - guessing a bit on the last line, as it disappears into the liner)

The main blade looks to not have been centered very well at all for quite some time, going by the wear seen on the blade near the tip and also in the liner.

Those are some beautiful red bone pruners!

I've been working on cleaning up this old Miller Brothers sleeveboard. The bone on the back scale is shattered, so it will have to be replaced or patched.

GEJr.

It sure has the phenotypic expression of an Ulster Knife Co genealogy. Albert Baer bought several knife companies in the mid 1900s and merged Ulster with Imperial in the 1940's. The knife could have been double stamped at that time. Who knows...the blades could have been replaced ; but when? But maybe not and at any rate it's a very interesting knife and could be a transition knife which makes it very cool. It's a looker any day of the week:thumbup::thumbup::D

Edit: here is one I posted awhile back for reference

GE Jr, Very nice vintage Ulster Barlow:cool:

Scott, Miller Bros knives are a bit elusive, great old knife, shame the pile side cover is gone, still I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I love giving new life to an old knife:thumbup:

Gev, That is such a Beeeeutiful Ulster, love the color of the covers and how mellow they are:cool::thumbup:

Now, a very BIG THANK YOU!!! to Charlie:thumbup:

I posted my search for a PRIMBLE Clip Barlow to complete my trifecta and sure enough one arrives in the mail:)

She is SOLID with no play, patina already present and just a wonderful example. I love it. I sharpened it up and in my pocket it went:thumbup:

Charlie, again, MANY, MANY thanks. Your generosity is so appreciated:thumbup: Not only are you a "Tour De Force" in the knife world but here on the porch...Thank you Buddy:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That's just a wee bit of Karma coming back to you Paul for all that you do to others. Charlie himself needs a massive amount of pay back - as we know he does so much - he also does more behind the scenes - both of you guys are amazing representatives of the Traditional knife person.
Glad to have both of you as my friends that's for sure.

Have not had much time the last week or so. I come back to this thread and you all have been busy, lots of nice old knives being posted everyone.

Paul, congratulations on the set of Primble's, very nice and the Case pruners are beautiful, can't beat that Case red bone.

Those look great Paul.

Morning John and Diane.

For Charlie, what can I say,he smiles in the face of the horns glaring rage in this world and makes us better for it.

What a beautiful set, Paul! Truly, what goes around (generosity) comes around. :)

Glad you sharpened it, and spiffed it up, Paul!
I rarely clean a knife any more - just oil them, and I sent it to Paul as I found it. A good knife needing some modest TLC, Paul did it proud!!
