"Old Knives"

Great half congress. I have a German in this pattern with rattail bolsters and love it. I like that yours has a pen secondarry. May I ask what the closed lenght is?

Thanks ISKRA, it is right at 3".

Thanks buddy. Sometimes you win like the Walden and sometimes you lose a little like this one, but in the long run everything balances out. It is still a very nice looking example of a hard to find vintage knife and will look great on display.

I absolutely agree - and I would rather own the knife than not. So all in all still a great knife my friend.

Let's talk about snap Augie my friend. I have some neat old knives- with NO SNAP AT ALL - but - a consistent amount of
Hold throughout the opening action.
The springs DO NOT move at all - even when at half stop where the Spring should be exposed to the limit - is this more a case of the "cam" at the rear of the blade being worn down to a point that it doesn't actually have any shape to push the Spring? I hope this doesn't sound silly.

Yes, the cam is worn down and the spring barely moves, the pen moves the spring quite far and has good snap. The main still holds open fairly firmly and the knife is usable. It was a little surprising to find it so weak with such a full blade, I suspect these old ones sit around and rust at the cam weakening the snap, I did flush some rust out.

Ok. Thank you Augie. It's nice to know I am on the right track. I too am surprised with that full Blade, but in saying that - I imagine your knife is very much like my examples I was explaining possibly with a tweak of snap where my two example have NO snap whatsoever- yet like you say they open respectively and hold their position well and are usable.
Ok- I had better get to work.

Have a great day Augie and all.

Two new arrivals today...

A New York Knife Co, Hammer Brand Jack with BEAUTIFUL Jigged bone, solid blades that sharpened to that "scary sharp" vintage steel acheives:thumbup:

That along with "WHAT ANOTHER RED BONE CASE PRUNER"!!!:D again full and solid blade. I guess I put CASE red bone into that mystique campfire category. No two are exactly alike and I feel they are truly mesmerizing:o

Paul, you're killin' it!! That Hammer Brand is a total grail, huge congrats.

Thank you Jeff, I eye balled it the whole way with not one bid (maybe I'm the foolish one) but I just had to have it. It's in remarkable shape for its age.

John, Thank you John, I can't seem to shake those red bone Pruners...makes no sense but that's normal for me:o

Just got home!! What do I see? A NYK and A Case Red Bone - Pruner at that - appearing before me

Paul matey- Wow!! - just Stunners the both- the Rwd Bone is aflame - and that NY Jack is drop dead gorgeous. Lovely Examples of exquisite Bone.

Very nice Paul, the NYKC is particularly fine. I really dig the dainty pin work that was done back in the day. Wonder what ever prompted the switch to the oversized work that came later on?

Absolutely fantastic scores Paul. Both knives are great but that NYKC is something very special it looks to be in really good condition and that jigging is beautiful. Congratulations my friend those are the kind of knives that truly make me happy for you.
