"Old Knives"

Jeff,I sell quite a few knives every week, and recently sold and shipped you a " Jim Bowie" commemorative S-W Cut LNIB,but honestly I do not recall this yellow one, could be my age is showing ? lol. Still pretty neat though

I had to laugh at this Vince since I have done the exact same thing:D I swear I have a certain knife and look forever and then realize I sold it, or must have right? or I find it later and its a nice reunion:o

Paul: homeruns on the pruning knives. Those handles are exquisite! Very, very nice. Between you and Duncan, I fear the world's Pruner and Harness Jack reserves are rapidly dwindling.;)

Glenn: That I*XL with etch and bar shield is real eye candy. You always seem to get knives with the most interesting and subtlety-exceptional details.

Augie: Great collection! Really like the handles on the Boker and tortoiseshell.

Thank you Robb, I was doing quite well until Duncan forced me to start buying vintage pruners:o;):D

So to deviate a bit from the pruners I was inspired by John's (Augie), Charlie and Rob's (Primble) stunning Worthing/Gardner Barlows. Not anywhere as old as theirs but quite nice just the same is a CLEARCUT Barlow by Worthington.

The Tang reads: CLEARCUT, GEO WORTHINGTON CO. This is a STOUT barlow with a lot of heft to it. Half stops that are flush in all positions, solid and centered blades and thick smooth bone golden brown covers:thumbup: Its in fantastic shape with great f&f and very near full blades. Not sure of an approx year but would really like input from all who may have an idea? I havent found out much when searching and thats where Rob's thread pops up:thumbup:

:o Vince, you are correct. I bought this one off the bay the day after getting the SW from you, and mixed them up.

Just when you think you have seen all of the great old Barlows , along comes another one.
Wonderful find my friend !!!!
It makes me feel real good when you guys find another great one like that.
I am just enjoying the H/// out of this ride.

Awesome pickup, Paul. What a beauty. Goins has a little info on the company:

"GEO WORTHINGTON CO. CLEVELAND c. 1892-1949. This company was at 95-99 St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. They were importers and jobbers of all types of cutlery." p. 307

The "Clearcut" trademark apparently dates from 1906. They also used "Harvard" and "Trail Blazer".

Harry, Thank you my friend. I at one time had more vintage than recent production knives then sold well over 80% of my collection. Regretted that for years and am slowly rebuilding my collection.

Just a tremendous knife, Paul! Wow :thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you Gev, always appreciate your comments buddy:cool::)

Interesting John, thanks for that. So if I understand correctly they also issued cutlery/knives with the Harvard and Trail Blazer trademarks?

Paul that Case- well both are stunning, but I havent seen the latest one until now- Oh Man that Bone is juuuuuuust Beautiful!!! Thats a real real nice knife my friend.

Sorry I missed your post Duncan, I was looking back at all the wonderful knives posted in this thread and see I missed this. Thank you Duncan, I appreciate your kind comments my friend:thumbup:

Worthy of forwarding in totality, that must be a rare pattern, Paul! Great score in nice condition!

Thank as well Charlie, I was unaware of a small pruner like this one. So pocketable and enjoyable to carry;)

Paul, I have never seen that Bolster Stamping before my friend! What a wonderful Old Barlow, now speaking of such, I received a box in the mail today- I can say what or who from until I contact this great person - and we all know who he is...so I will keep you posted Folks...I just got home- very late, finished work late- shot off to Art Class, and need to catch up with a very generous guy.
Talk soon folks

Slowly?????:D:D Seriously Paul you are putting together a wonderful collection of vintage knives, that Clearcut is a wonderful addition to the very fine knives you have added recently, congratulations!

As in my Thanks Thread to both Jack and Bob.....

Two massive Pruners by Taylor Eye Witness......

.....and Bob sent me this Stunning CocaCola Barlow this is in such beautiful condition, the Bone to die for....

Amazing generosity by both of these two great guys

Very nice Duncan and what great generosity from Jack and Bob. Love the bone on the CocaCola Barlow.

Off the charts generosity and loveliness from Jack and Bob!! Looking forward to seeing more of these wonders :thumbup:

Ok, I think I'm going to win for the oldest find this week:D Added an EF&S Barlow, appears to be mid 1800's, scratted bone, the EF&S appears to be a finer script than later ones, the only blade stamping is the name Edward, I would assume this is for Edward Furness. It's a little rough from rust but has almost a full blade and I think the bone still has original dye.

Another find this week is a Russell pruner, full blade and unusual diamond checkered ebony handles, I thought they might be synthetic but I'm pretty sure its ebony.

You have GOT to have a time machine my friend!

Jack - I know...... theres something about Augie- when I meet him at the Rendezvous - the first thing I am going to do is hold a Mirror up to him to see if he has a reflection.
