"Old Knives"

Some Rogers bone on a Imperial Cattle knife

A 100 lb. knife for sure, Gev!!
(Is that background a sack, or a shirt??)

Okay, I have a mystery knife. Perhaps one of you wizards will know what it is.
A 3'' horn handled shadow pattern, with two blades and scissors. The only tang stamp is an image of a crown, the letters "I" and "R", and crossed keys or flags, or maybe it's a picture of scissors?
Look familiar to anybody? Some sort of Royal Cypher?

I don’t have any info for you about this knife but man it sure is cool. I like everything about it. Great find.

First saw this old Russel Granddaddy probably 4 years ago in an antique mall . It has been way over priced every time I saw it . Yesterday they were having a 20% off sale and I offered even lower than that and they took it . It ain't perfect , but it has been the best one that I have been able to handle that was for sale yet. It is one that I had to have in my meager collection too .

Nice knife, nothing "cheesy" about it. ;) It waited a long time for you, glad you got it.

Thank you.

The other old knife that came in this week is a "Red Devil" Smith & Hemenway electrician's knife. Made by Utica, I believe. The screwdriver is supposed to lock open, and is released by pushing in on the main blade. I'm afraid the backsprings are too worn, so I can just close the driver without much extra force. The main blade is pretty worn, too. I took a risk bidding on it because I wanted to see how that kind of lock works. Looking down the well, I think I understand.

Oh well, I'll tighten up the pivot and sharpen what's left of the blade and it should be a usable old Jack. I do like the way the wood is tapered.

All great knives guys in their own unique ways! Nice trifecta :D:thumbsup:

I've gone on a self-induced break in my knife buying, been really busy with work and other odds / ends around the house but it has been great checking out everybody's additions :) I imagine I'll hit the buying circuit again soon but in the meantime, keep posting your old beauties everyone ;)

Here's a 3 5/8 closed New York Knife Co. "official" BSR 1 scout knife. Levine's guide says that NYK Co. was the official scout knife maker until 1922, which included having "be prepared" on the shield. There are faint salesman sample numbers on the back of the main blade. Kevin posted this link on scout knives on the previous page, which includes a section on NYK Co. scout knives.
