"Old Knives"

Okay, I have a mystery knife. Perhaps one of you wizards will know what it is.
A 3'' horn handled shadow pattern, with two blades and scissors. The only tang stamp is an image of a crown, the letters "I" and "R", and crossed keys or flags, or maybe it's a picture of scissors?
Look familiar to anybody? Some sort of Royal Cypher?

Ignaz Rosler - Nixdorf, Bohemia, one of my favorite obscure brands. Nice little folder at around 100 years old.

Wow! Thank you! The depth of knowledge in this place never ceases to amaze me. I've got to do some reading about this brand. Do you know what the picture is supposed to represent?

It is a nice little folder. The scissors cut really well, even without the little spring. The blades are pretty much full, and there's only one little horn beetle nibble right next to the shield. :)

I have a rather haphazard way of knife collecting. Of course, I have favorite makers and patterns, but I'll buy anything if it's old and interesting (especially if it's inexpensive) and strikes my fancy. Then I post pictures here for the amazing knife wizards to identify. :) It seems I now have a collection of two, from major manufacturers of Nixdorf, Bohemia. (now Mikulasovice, Czech Republic)

Looks like Bohemian knives are more abundant across the Pond than over here where Austria-Hungary used to be!:thumbsup:

Picked up this Challenge Jack, 3 5/8", sheep foot main, I think the large pen was originally a full sized blade which would be unusual for vintage Jack.

Nice! All the details are primo: grooved bolster, banner shield, excellent bone. I wonder what the second blade was, originally. Maybe a spear or spey?
R8shell - That is indeed a great wee Pen Knife - I really like the look of that knife.:thumbsup:

Augie- lovely old Callenge my friend - LOVE that Bone.
Thank you.

Thanks Rachel, I'm thinking spear, wish it had not been modified, these jacks with sheep foot main blades are a favorite pattern of mine and not easy to find.

It is a shame. A broken tip, I assume, then modified to something usable.

I love books, especially reference books! It is time to acquire those "Scout" references!
Thanks for listing them Cal!!
Charlie... the link below is the single best resource I found on Boy Scout knives and it is probably the first knife related resource I ever really used. I think most folks know I have a bit of a sweet tooth for Ulster and the Ulster Scout knives were the first knives I ever actually sought as "grail" knives. I'm still on the look-out for an original Ulster Sea Scout and a BSA #1503 but I have most of the other Ulster BSA knives.

Here are some of my old Ulster bone BSA's:

And a couple synthetic's... the white one is from the 1980s and is definitely an SFO and the Stainless "Scoutmaster" was made from 1966-1976 so it started as being Ulster made (I believe mine is) but I'm not sure after that, I suspect Camillus was the manufacturer for the Ulster scout knives post 1972.

Very nice collection of Ulster scouts, Kevin!
Thanks also for the link. I am not a scout collector, but it is nice to see the information.

It's very useful to see them all near each other, and thanks for the link!
Man if that knife you posted didn't have a groove in the bolster I would've asked you for an overall length measurement Charlie :D I need one that is 3-3/8" long without grooves which would be c.1923-1926.
