Ive always been a traditional knife guy,but the forum has really made me appreciate some good stuff.A customer sent me a Emerson to clean up the blade. It had some minor scratches from a imprudent cleaning attempt.I put a fine scotch brite belt on a 8" wheel and got it looking pretty nice i think. Also touched up the edge a bit.Wow,what a quality heavy duty folder this thing is.I had no idea!Geez, ignorance was truly bliss, now i gotta figure out a way to buy one of these beasts.

Based solely on your title... Yes they are. They are the only liner lock I have 100% faith in. They lock up like a frame lock, great snap. 154cm is plenty good enough for me and while the fit and finish are a bit unrefined it does not bother me at all. There are a lot of haters out there but I have put up my sebbie and traded my strider to carry my lefty CQC7. I absolutely love this knife.

I loved it so much I picked up a few others to try out.

The top is a CQC14, "Snubby", the tan one is an M-wave, and the 7 is on the bottom.

Pick an Emerson up as you can see well worth the try.

Ive got a 16 yo grandson thats a Marines nut.If he joins and has to go to war,im sticking one of these babies in his pocket.I cant imagine a better fighter/utility do all knife.

Very nice, clean designs. I just can't justify paying that much for a simple linerlock when I could be getting features like Ti framelock, supersteels like CPM-M4 or ELMAX, CNC machined G-10, carbon fiber, and better fit and finish for the same price or less. I'd buy them if they were priced more competitively in today's market.

I may try one out. Some models can be had for around 130$. Not terrible.

I don't have an Emerson yet but the CQC-8 will be the model I will be buying. I just can't find any plain edge satin model yet.

I concur!!
I have 2 Emersons, A Super Commander which is my EDC
and a P-SARK which needs some attention on the blade.
I was just thinking about contacting Emerson to see if they
have a P-SARK replacement blade in stock.

Be careful though, There has been counterfeit copies showing up on the market from China.
I purchased an Emerson Commander last month and it is a copy, Basically a piece of crap.
Luckily I purchased it through Amazon.com and after no results from the company that shipped
on their behalf, Amazon issued a full credit to me.

Couldn't have said it better! I love the simplicity and overall build. I dislike framelocks, and supersteels so EKI is the company to beat.

Good luck only getting one!

The Super CQC 8 must be a BADASS blade, the CQC 8 feels very large when its in hand so i can only imagine the Super CQC8.

Where are you going to get those features for less than $200? Please, do tell!

Having spent thousands of bucks on folders, I still don't own an Emerson and thats probably the reason. The other is the lack of availability. I have nothing against Emerson knives and would like to own one - or at least play with one - but there are always about 15 knives on my want list ahead of an Emerson.

On a prominent vendor's website right now, it says that the CQC7A "typically ships within 9-12 months". Really? Do I wait a year, or get something like a Military delivered to my mailbox in 3 days, with the latest steel, unsurpassed fit and finish, and made by perhaps the nicest guy on Bladeforums? This is why I've never owned an Emerson. I don't avoid them - but it seems like they are avoiding me. JMO.

Kershaw Speedform II with Elmax blade and contoured G10 handles for around 90$.
Spyderco Caly 3 with ZDP189, carbon fibre handles for around 120$.
Kershaw Spec Bump with CNC machined G10 and S30V for around 120$.
Hogue EX-01 with Machined Aluminium or Contoured G10 handles and outstanding button lock for around 120$.
Spyderco Sage 2 with Titanium framelock and S30V blade for around 150$.
Spyderco Gayle Bradley with carbon fibre handles, M4 steel blade for around 140$.

I can go on if you'd like.

OK,but do these have the heft and massive feel of this Emerson?Being a traditional knife guy,i like the Buck 110 so the big heavy blade and frame is a plus to me.The 154CM is a great steel that is very hard and holds a super edge. They arent easy to sharpen correctly, but i expect it to hold quite well.

I just picked up the CQC-10 and like it a lot. Posted about it in the Emerson sub-forum.

Back in early 2009, I scored a NIB Zero Tolerance 0301 for 189 shipped. Also got an Emerson Auto Commander (made by Kershaw, S30V/aluminum/G10) which sold for about 154$ at that time.

Lets face it - buying a knife is not all about the numbers. What it often comes down to is what knife do you dig? What knife instills confidence? Whether thats an Emerson or a ZT or a whatever, being told that another knife is "better" - in terms of blade steel, cost, etc. - really does not change the fact that you just dig a particular knife or are confident that it will do the job for you. So the "mine is better than yours" thing sorta misses the point. JMO. :)

Exactly. I'd add the ZT 0200 with the same blade material as Emerson, but CNC machining on the scales. Also the Bradley Alias Ti framelock and ZT 0550 Ti framelock. Even the 0551 cost less than some Emersons.

Yes. Some of the knives listed above are more light slicers, but some are real beasts. After owning or handling knives like the ZT 0200 and Gayle Bradley, Emersons feel really flimsy to me. Really, they're much heftier and sturdier than Emersons. I suspect the same is true of the Hogue, although I haven't handled one.
