OMG Emerson knives are cool!

Currently I own a CQC7BW, a very pimped mini CQC7 and a P SARK.

My CQC7BW is the only one I've really put to the test , it worries me that after a few months of use the linerlock is at %50 , is that normal for a ti linerlock ? ( I know that ti wears faster than steel but I seem to have heard once they break in the stay in the same percentage for quite a while ) It's the only ti linerlock I own so I do not know. Otherwise it is a very tough and capable folder that I'm sure will do what I ask it to do.
The P SARK is from 2000 and used , the liner is very thin on it but it seems capable.

My uber pimped mini CQC7 is just too pretty to use on the other hand , it is for fiddling with while one watches Red Dawn or something... :)

A good friend of mine carried an '8 throughout his time in Iraq.

Fixed that for you, chief. ;)

Talking sense to a fanboy never does any good, though. Enjoy your Emerson-flavoured Kool-aid. I'll be over here enjoying knives that have reasonable prices and decent fit and finish.
Watch out with the name-calling, big guy. I'm no "fanboy," nor do I "drink the kool-aid." If you've ever read any of my posts, you'll form a different opinion, as I carry and use all sorts of knives & tools, and don't limit myself to any particular brand.
Check your tone, son, and try to advance beyond petty jibes and sweeping generalizations.

To say that none of the other knives listed aren't as tough or durable as an Emerson is dead wrong. And for the gentleman who trusts a liner-lock with no gaurd what so ever for stabbing, well, I just hope you only stab jello.

In my opinion Emerson has the best designs in the world, and there's still too much working against them for me to want one.

The CQC-12 is still my favorite knife I've ever owned, so I shouldn't say I don't want an Emerson. I would love #12. And I actually wouldn't mind trying a Combat Karambit either. So I retrack what I said earlier about not wanting one.

Just because you're a fanboy for more than one brand doesn't mean that you aren't a fanboy...

If you make "sweeping generalizations" like "nothing is as tough as an Emerson," though, you're inviting comments like that. No knife is the end-all; that's why people collect instead of just saving up to buy one knife.

Sigh...
So, I suppose expressing an appreciation for a product, in your eyes, makes me a "fanboy." Whatever, kiddo, think what you want. Whenever anyone *mentions* that Emerson knives are good tools, there's always a whole raft of guys who jump at their throat, calling names and making assumptions.
Indeed, no knife is the end-all, and you'll find that I've never said that about any. Simply expressing my own conclusions, drawn from years of personal experience, seems to garner me some sort of derogatory standing in your eyes, and somehow give you a condescending upper hand. Well, I hope you enjoy yourself.

thanks to this thread, i received my first emerson yesterday. a Mini A-100 satin plain edge. and i love this knive! ive been looking for a 3 inch folder that can handle the tasks. A tip and pivot that inspires confidence. takes up little pocket space. fast 1 handed deployment.

and thanks to the great pics in this thread, i will probably pick up a horseman next :D

Emersons always seem to bring out the temper. I've had at least 10 different Emersons. Some were duplicates (CQC-7 & Commanders). I can't recall any being bad & in fact the later model ones seem to have better F&F (The newer stonewash finished ones are excellent to look at). I still have a CQC-12SF (An '06 waved model) & a CQC-7SFS (An unwaved '99 CE model). The CQC-7 has gone through hell (In & out of this country) & lock-up's at a respectable 2/3 or so.

I admit that lately, they do seem to be more expensive in relation to comparable knives. Yes, they have an excellent life-time warranty & their handles are very well designed (They're so comfortable in the hand). But, they are liner-locks (Not even full Ti lock & liner anymore), chisel grind edges (& chisel grind blades on some), & 154CM blade steel. 154CM is not a bad blade steel, but it's certainly not the premium "high-end" steel it used to be, although it's decent.

I'm not really complaining here, just saying that while they are very good knives, they don't seem as "high value" as they used to be.

I get that feeling too. I remember when their standard sized folders (Commander, CQC-8 etc) were around $180 in stores. Now they're up to $230 or so, quite a jump.

I'm on the fence about purchasing a Mini A100. Unfortunately, the myriad of the negative comments throughout the forum have caused me to pause. I've been spoiled lately by my Sabenza and issues with blade play and whatnot will have me cursing the gods after forking over close to $200 bills. So, please give it to me strait. Does the Mini A100 wiggle or rattle? How tight is the lockup when deployed? Can the blade be pushed side-to-side to make contact with the liners when closed?

If so, who sells a modified/custom titanium version of the Mini A100 with an awesome fit and finish?

This guy has been beating the hell out of this CQC11 and posting vids. The knife has taken all with no complains. He has a tread on another forum

Almost every picture I see of an Emerson looks like the knife is either new or seen very light use.

I'd really like to see a video of some hard use with an Emerson to get an idea of what they're really capable of, because IMO they better be as "hard use" as it gets to command the price point they do (like others have said you can get more for less).

So someone beat the sh!t out of their Emerson so we can see just how "hard use" they really are:thumbup:

Despite being weary of Emersons, and not liking recurves or tanto blades (which very limits the Emerson line up for me) I recently picked up a CQC-13 on the forum for around $140, LNIB, still hadn't been broken in, its an older model with the satin finish 2006. After having/using it for a couple weeks I absolutely love the blade shape, as well as the handle, it really locks in to your grip much like the Manix 2 does for me as well, I also love the grippy G10. I got the hang of the wave opening pretty quickly and like it, but prefer just using the thumb disc. I will say however I had to take it apart when I first got it and clean it up, there was a lot of sticky/tacky gunk, much like stuff that new mossbergs come covered in. It was very sticky, and I had to use two hands to close the liner lock the first 50 times or so, however after taking it apart cleaning it out with solvent and re-lubing it then opening and closing it about 100 times, its just as smooth as a Spyderco Military. The lockup is about 50%. Overall for the price I bought it at I happy with it, would I pay the current online price of $223 definitely not, I do want to pick up a CQC-8 at some price IF I can find it on the forum for $145 or less, while I like the knives, I just don't feel they're worth the price when you can buy similar product like a Spyderco Military, same G10 handles, liner lock (steel, which I actually prefer because of the longer durability, and the weight loss advantage of titanium is negligible in this size of an application) an upgraded steel (S30V), bronze phosphorus washers, and don't have to be broken in like emersons all for $100 less. You could also compare the Manix 2 two Emersons as well or the BM 950 Rift.

The CQC-10 ran around $150 and now it's at $200. A whopping 25% increase in price. The Micro Commander runs almost $200 also but the Mini Commander is just $140? Crazy pricing. I'm looking at the price list now and it really makes no sense at all. Big knives are cheaper than their smaller counterparts and some appear to cost more because they are sold at a Prestige dealership. Prestige meaning " Only available direct from Emerson knives or through our Prestige dealer network." Which means nothing really because you can get the non Prestige knives through either Emerson knives or any dealer that sells Emerson knives.Emerson must be short on $ because of the new factory.

UHH...Have you been to the friggin grocery store lately?I cant afford the Emersons i want now,but after handling and examining several i still say their great!

Seems like the smart thing to do since their knives are never in stock. There's obviously huge demand. If you look in the dealer sales section on this forum you'll see an announcement once in a while that they got a new batch of Emersons. A few days later they'll all be gone.

I agree some of the pricing differences are weird. The CQC7 is still around $130 from dealers but any new models seems to cost over $200.

Could also be because EKI has a small production base. They have some 20-30 employees compared to another company that produces knives in the U.S. like Benchmade which employs well over 120 people. Benchmade knives are very popular and are usually in stock because they can produce more. I spent nearly 2 decades working in the manufacturing field and this is usually the case.

There is a difference between demand from a lot of people wanting it and demand from restricting supply. EKI is doing the second. Nevertheless, they are good knives.
