OMG Emerson knives are cool!

I decided to give Emerson ANOTHER chance after my CQC-7 developed extreme blade-play years ago... so I bought a brand new CQC-15 last week...(despite the hefty price tag) and I almost enjoyed it until the thumb stud BROKE OFF while riding in my pocket.
I only used it to break down a few boxes and whittle a stick! (not exactly "Hard-use")

i love all my emersons.. i still have my old school ones with butterfly logos :) the Emerson Horseman is in my steady EDC rotation with my Ritter mini grip and para 2

Almost every picture I see of an Emerson looks like the knife is either new or seen very light use.

I'd really like to see a video of some hard use with an Emerson to get an idea of what they're really capable of, because IMO they better be as "hard use" as it gets to command the price point they do (like others have said you can get more for less).

So someone beat the sh!t out of their Emerson so we can see just how "hard use" they really are:thumbup:

The only video I know which has one doing some tests on an Emerson is Ankerson's, it's not super brutal but the series of testing did bust a few others knives. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woG2l1FWI3Q

I've seen that vid and even in that light abuse test the liner jumps all the way to the right. I think with some harder abuse it'd fail outright. I'd like to give Emerson a try but the price and negative user reports are really holding me back.

I bought my first Emerson last month and I absolutely love it (CQC 15 Mini). I had read all the threads concerning price, fit & finish, etc., but that didn't deter me from at least trying one. This blade has exceeded my expectations. In fact, earlier this week, I traded a fixed blade for a 2002 Emerson Commander.

Here is my Mini CQC 15:

Here is the Commander:

I have a Super CQC 8 just like that one. I have another one with a black blade. I am in the process of paying for a Custom Super Roadhouse which is my second favorite Emerson pattern.

I've owned just about every Emerson production model. Really dug the HD-7 and the Comrade 12. Gotta say those framelocks rocked!! Never had a problem with the liner locks either. I have since moved on to another brand, but I'd own an Emerson in a heartbeat!

well i posted earlier today that i had a CQC 15 in the mail and it came in so here are some pics:
My small but growing collection of Emersons

there is a glare on the CQC 15 so heres another shot:

Carried that combo tonight. Haven't used it at all yet because i've only had it for a few hours, but i like the design alot. Serial # 1111, easy to remember. I have to say i've never liked tanto blades but i really do like how it is done on the CQC15 with the belly of the blade meeting the tanto, it doesn't look as dramatic and scream tanto. As with all the Emersons ive handled, ergonomics are awesome. Came sharp enough to pop some hairs but i am going to give it a few passes on the ceramic stone. Can't wait to really use it hah!

I beat the living piss out of my a100 which is considered by many to be the "gentleman's model". I'm talking; used it as a chisel at least four times once with a 4lb hand sledge for a mallet, many days of work on the river which plugs up and wears down most locks after a week or two, a bunch of thick nylon rope cutting (way tougher than manila rope), some cutting and prying of pine 2x4s, and some wire stripping.

I agree that many users on this forum don't really need the hard use knife they take pics of, but to each their own. Here's a pic of my A100 about a year ago, its significantly more beat now, but the lock engages very solidly at 80% (which is fine by me as its a solid lockup even under reverse pressure against the spine) Its the only knife I trust my fingers to with stabbing things, aside from my para2.

FYI I got this guy in 09 and its been my most carried knife since, and I use my knives quite hard almost everyday. And by that I don't mean by opening a cardboard box a day! ;)

I'll get a better picture someday, the knife certainly deserves it. No lanyards on it anymore, and please ignore the la griffe that one just sort of "arrived" one day

Kershaw Speedform II with Elmax blade and contoured G10 handles for around 90$.
Spyderco Caly 3 with ZDP189, carbon fibre handles for around 120$.
Kershaw Spec Bump with CNC machined G10 and S30V for around 120$.
Hogue EX-01 with Machined Aluminium or Contoured G10 handles and outstanding button lock for around 120$.
Spyderco Sage 2 with Titanium framelock and S30V blade for around 150$.
Spyderco Gayle Bradley with carbon fibre handles, M4 steel blade for around 140$.

I can go on if you'd like.
LOL, as they say. None of those are as tough or durable as an Emerson.

Show us just one Spydie Gayle Bradley that somebody wore out, used up or otherwise brought to the end of its lifespan.

Emersons may be fine knives - but lets keep it real here.

Doubt it. If we were to give someone like Noss or Cliff Stamp those listed knives/their equivalents and a bunch of Emersons, I'd expect them all to fail at around the same level of abuse, with some variance of course. If a something like a framelocked Spyderco fails, I don't see how a linerlocked Emerson would survive the same torture test.

I use this one a lot, and hard. Been going strong since 2004.

LOL, as they say. Every single one of those is just tough or durable as an Emerson.

Fixed that for you, chief. ;)

Talking sense to a fanboy never does any good, though. Enjoy your Emerson-flavoured Kool-aid. I'll be over here enjoying knives that have reasonable prices and decent fit and finish.

Sounds like some pretty hard use:D:thumbup: Did the lock slowly work it's way to 80% or once it was broke in, it's just been holding at 80%?

I'll get a better picture someday, the knife certainly deserves it.

Please do, I really enjoy seeing well used knives:thumbup:

Give that emerson liner lock a few spine whacks when the blades open. If it stays locked, you're doing good.
