Yeah....After searching the net for about 23 hours now, I could not find anything I wanted from my last post concerning a folder that was around 200 and below that resembles a ontario, hk34, sere 2000,manix, emerson commander, and the kershaw spec. All of them had something wrong with them - knife curve was to hard to sharpen because of the shape, bad locking system, blade play, no pocket clip, wrong metal....

I was so dissapointed out of all those knives no one could put out a quality folder that didn't have a particular flaw that stood out.

So finally I dropped the money for a SNG STRIDER..(yes i cried shortly after after realizing how much I spent) I figure I would really never need another knife, this knife and my leatherman charge will do me good for a long TIME. I got the SNG because the blade isn't as long compared to the AR.

I hope this was a good purchase and was wondering how your guy's striders, particularly your SNG striders are preforming nowadays and if they would ever trade it in for anything else...:)

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I can't honestly say that there is anything about the materials or workmanship that make it "worth" $400. But there is an aesthetic appeal to it that makes it "worth" (to me) what I paid, and its said to be a folder that will take some serious abuse. If it comes to abusing a knife, I'll do it to a Ka-bar and not a $400 folder. But I like this knife - even as a light duty EDC - and will probably add a larger Strider to the arsenal next time I find a pile of money laying around.

cheers

To each his/her own I guess.

I don't think Striders are worth more than $150. But that's me. ;)

If you like it, that's what really counts. Worth is subjective, but I think Strider's are overpriced for what you get.

Great choice bro. I abuse the **** out of my Striders, they can take anything.

It won't last you for a long time, it will last you to the end of time!

So what's up with you guys dumping all over this guys purchase. If you don't have anything nice to say then STFU.

Yeah really. Who gives a crap with other people think? If your happy with a knife that can take more abuse than most, then thats what counts. Now what other people think.

He didn't ask if we had anything nice to say about it. He asked how we liked them and if they were worth it.

I've handled an AR and I didn't think it was any big deal. In fact I thought that the Spyderco Manix and Paramilitary are better knives. Same with the Benchmade 710. Striders are overpriced (for me) and not worth it (for me).

He asked an opinion and we gave it.

i bought a strider sng about eight months ago and have edc'd it ever since. to me the knife is worth every penny, i love it.

If we only chime in to be cheerleaders for our favorite makers/knives we are only getting half the benefit of these forums.

If there is a problem with a knife, design, maker etc. I , for one, would like to hear it. All comments, positive or negative should be voiced so that we can better educate each other, IMHO.

That said, I have a Strider folder and it is a brute. Very strong and capable. I suspect the buyer will enjoy his SnG.

He asked what people thought. Not everyone responds in the typical fanboy fashion. Striders are nice knives, but to some, not worth their price point, nor the hype surrounding them.

No, he did not ask what people thought. He asked how your Striders are preforming.

True, I forgot to address that point. My SMF has held up very well for just over 12 months of daily use. It's lockup is sound and has not developed any blade play yet. My previous Strider folders varied greatly in overall quality. I've owned several AR's and SnG's that covered the full spectrum of quality control issues. This particular SMF however, was perfect from delivery. But, as already mentioned, it is much more a $150-$225 folder than a $475 one. At least to me.

Love my Coyote Brown SnG. Not used it for any heavy tasks, but its nice to know if I need a tough as hell folder I have one.

Exactly. He wanted to hear from people that actually own and use strider knives, not just peoples opinions.

I have a Digicam Coyote Brown GB, and its been a very good knife. It did fall open and stab me in the arse one day, but that's been about it. I carry it in a sheath now. As for how its performed, it has done everything I've ever asked it to do. Personally, I prefer the AR/GB folders to the SNG/SMF/PT ones. Though the Detent on all the SNG/SMF's I've ever handled was VERY strong, so it shouldn't be a problem of falling open. Would I ever trade it in? I don't know. Probably, but only for a custom- a Devastator to be precise. Otherwise I like it.

As for them being overpriced/QC issues etc., I'll restate something I've already said: Striders are what they are. You're paying for an aesthetic as well as the workmanship and warranty. If I were in Europe, I don't think I'd buy one, simply because if they need to be sent into the shop its a big hassle. Of course, if I lived in Europe, I doubt I'd buy ANY piece of US cutlery since for the retail price on most US (or even Japanese, I suspect) knives you could have a really nice knife made by a european company. In one review I saw of a GB and an Extrema Ratio, the ER won out a bit because it was so much less expensive than the GB. Well, for someone in Europe, the GB really IS a huge expense. Guess what, just like I wouldn't buy a Strider if I were in Europe, I wouldn't buy an ER folder, and the reason is much the same. I don't want to have to send my knives to Italy to get them fixed any more than someone in Italy wants to send their knives to California.

Knives are mechanical things, and mechanical things break eventually. Should Striders have better QC? Maybe, I don't know. MY Strider is functionally perfect. If you live here in the US, then it shouldn't be a huge deal to send your knife out to get it fixed if something is wrong. If they refuse to fix it, and it was something with the knife and not what you did with the knife, THEN there is a problem. Outside of that, its all part of doing business. If you're a knife enthusiast, you know that Strider has quibbling QC and a certain "attitude" about it. Don't like the attitude, don't buy it. Worried about the QC, buy from a dealer you trust who'll check it for you before shipping or buy one in person. I got mine on the cheap, so I have no regrets about it, because I know that if/when I sell it, I'll get most- if not all- of what I put into it back out of it.

As for being overpriced, it is what it is. The price is the price. If you don't like it, don't pay it. If you want to save some money on one buy it on the secondary market.

Sorry for the long post.

LoL, Thanks for the support. I guess I do like to hear the good and bad, but still if you say its not that great or not worth the money that at least tell me detailed reasons why..

See, the reason I ended up with one is that all the other knives I mentioned had flaws that I didn't think were worth dealing with and decreased the overall quality and worth of the knife. I read about striders and really didn't hear ANYTHING about the quality except that it was great. Now, if I head bad things about the lock or the blade and such, then that would be a diff story but considering the reviews, I had no choice to pay that much for a strider because NOTHING out there really came close to it in terms of durability and ass kicking factors.

Sounds good :)

I owned a Sng for one month before I sold it. Though it did have a rugged appeal I soon found that it had an uncomfortable handle. Specifically the heel that dug into the palm of my hand while working it. Strider misses the comfort factor with their knives as well as not producing the right size for realistic use. Thankfully their construction is bare bolts which allows you to modify them yourself.
