OMG, I forgot a knife today!

When I made a trip to St. Louis over Thanksgiving I "forgot" a knife. Since I was there for a few days I had to make a trip into Illinois to get one at GP Knives.

I keep a little piece of crap multi-tool at work, but honestly I could get through the average week, much less day, without using my EDC knife. I use scissors and kitchen knives way more than I do my folders.

We all do it once in a while. I carry a relatively inexpensive NRA MAXIM folder I got from going to a Friends of the NRA show a few years ago in the med kit of my truck. I grt it as soon as I can and carry it until I'm home. Then I put it back!

Okay, I'm calm now. Had an A. G. Russell Woodswalker sitting in a locked cabinet at work. With a 2.5" limit, I have to be careful of what I stash at work.

I do have a daily carry emergency bag that sits in the back seat of my car, and I have a ZT 0550 in there, but won't go bring it in to work.

Don't remind me.

I just lost my backup carry, black Vic Solo. Second time I've lost a knife; did find the first a decade later, so I guess it'd be my first.

I'm sad. I really liked it.

Always keep a couple EDCs here and there in the car.

Early on, girlfriend ridiculed such practice. Until she needed to cut something. Now she pops open the glovebox without comment and I try not to let her catch me smiling.

I actually sleep with a knife and flashlight clipped IWB of my boxers. The light is used nightly but the knife doesn't get a lot of use but I'm a knife nut.

Must be some nasty bed bugs you have to protect yourself from!!!

I have a get home bag in the trunk of my car. It has a few protein bars, water, first aid kit, extra mags and ammo, a fixed blade and...an extra folder. If I forget my EDC, I have extra in the car.

I've recently switched from carrying things in my pockets to putting everything in a small backpack. I went a couple weeks with my EDC knife in that pack and just couldn't get used to it. I've had a knife in my pocket nearly every day since 4th grade when my dad gave me my first Buck lockback. (Yes, I'm from a generation when boys carried pocketknives starting in gradeschool, and it was a responsibility to take care of it, and the norm). Anyway, I just couldn't get over the "something's not quite right" feeling, so I now have one back in my pocket, and a more substantial fixed blade in the pack. I suppose I patted down my pockets about 2 dozen times over about 2 weeks, every time thinking, "Uh oh! Where's my knife?!" That just wasn't working.

I don't have to worry about having this type of day again.

I looked around on the 'Bay to find a Victorinox Secretary in Alox and I stuck it in my wallet as soon as it was in hand (after a sharpening).
On to of that, I am going to be making an alternative. I am looking for the right sized "donor" opinel, and I am going to pull the blade out and make a copper or bronze handle/blade cover.

Since I bought the knife, I have gone two separate days that would have been knife less otherwise.

I view it as a $20 insurance policy.

Unless you also forgot your wallet it sounds like a great opportunity to stop and buy a new knife.

I keep a Spyderco Bug on my keyring and a SAK Classic on my car keys.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm more upset with myself when I forget a knife than if I forget my phone. Probably because I've carried a knife many more years than a phone.

I'll occasionally forget to grab an EDC folder in the morning before heading out. Feel naked all day without something clipped in my front pocket. Luckily, there are always at least two small fixed blades in the truck, as well as an old Kershaw Blackout in the tool bag, so I don't sweat it.

Worst case scenario, there is always an SOG Micron II on my keychain, so I'm never really without something.

Someone mentioned flying...
Anytime I need to fly, and I'm going carry-on only, my first stop when I land is a hardware store or box store, and I'll pick up a $10-$15 knife somewhere, just to have something in my pocket. Before I fly back, I'll just give it to someone, or worst case, let TSA have it. Having a cheap knife is better than no knife at all.

Never fear Dan, I brought 3 so I got an extra. ;) I think that's happened to me maybe a dozen time in my life. Even if I'm in the shower I have a small Spyderco Ti Mini Police or my Victorinox money clip is clipped to a silver neck chain.

Yep I do the night before prep thing too, can be a bit gappy in the morning sometimes. Mismatched socks? So what. Forget to put on underpants? No prob, just swing for the day. Singlet on inside out? Whatever. No knife?!? Nooooo...

An Endura lives in my work wagon, a small fixed blade lives in my work bag, and I always wear one of several vests whether to work or elsewhere. Each vest has a folder in a zipped pocket.
I no longer have AO's in vest pockets though, they will open if the wife puts a vest-with-folder through the washing machine. This happened a while ago with the 0770. Knife came out clean but the 13 dps edge took a beating and the vest a lacerating.

I have a Trestle Pines Grand Portage or a Vic Explorer+ that I carry. Both have a heft that I miss when not in my pocket.
