On a Mora Kick

This is technically of a Companion, but the blade/tang profiles are the same. The stock on the Robust is just thicker and the handle a bit beefier. A fellow on another forum rehandled his Robust and confirmed it.

Interesting, I just ordered two Companions. I'll check out the Robust.

They're very nice! Especially so now that they're grinding the spines on 'em!

Thanks, after WW II and until the end of the 1970's, many Mora and Eskilstuna models were of this type.
I think it is possible to see the origin in the Green River Works models a hundred years earlier.

It's the same with the Sperati Point, it's a dressed up Green River Dadley.
Add a little bit of inspiration from Marble's, Wade&Butcher + Randall and there it is!

I recently broke down and bought a companion 840MG and I really like it. I think I'm going to order a few more to keep in my trucks and a couple kits.

This one's spine, is quite well done. Good sharp edges, and thick.

It's worth noting that the spines on the standard Robust aren't squared--in fact it seems they knock the edge off it. This makes sense since it's geared more towards craftsmen than towards bushcrafters. But establishing a squared region is nice and easy. :)

OK... one of these will be my first...

Any difference in strength between the Robust and the Bushcraft Black? I do not care about the finish, I take good care of my tools.

Are the spines rounded on both?

Who has the best prices?

I could just buy both..., but not at first...:D

Same thickness on both.

Black has a squared spine, and made from Carbon Steel.

Best price? Not sure, I got mine from SMKW, and that, ain't the best price.

I believe the Black to be the stronger due to more bladeheight, but both are stronger than previous models from Mora.
I ordered the Black today and it's the most expensive Mora I ever have ordered.
So if cost is a concern, the Robust is a lot of steel for the buck!

Ok, the Bushcraft Black arrived today and I immidiately put it to work in dry Maple.

The first impressions are of a very competent field knife, that cuts like a demon right out of the package.
No honing or sharpening, it just do what it's made for: It cuts!
No rolling or microchipping.
It's thick for a Mora and very stiff.

For a Craftsmans everyday use the Black has a too sharp spine and I think the Robust is the choice for the working man.
For Outdoor people and Military units, the Black seems to be a useful upgrade.

Yep, I like the new Mora Black when working with it in hand, but not the black finish of the blade, handle and sheath.
The cutting performance is there though, so I think I will have to accept the black finish for now.
