Not enough luck or cues to get it in 4 or less. :(

The final NYT average was 4.1.
 
Missing the first letter unfortunately left me after guess three with two options possible but nothing to recommend guessing one over the other, so today ended up as a five-guess day when I guessed wrong.

PINCH & FINCH that could have resulted in a fail.
