On Playing Wordle . . .

I played it briefly until I realized you're not really playing it unless you pay for the NYT Games subscription, and I am not giving the NYT money.

Wordle 465 4/6

β¬›β¬›β¬›πŸŸ¨β¬›
πŸŸ©β¬›πŸŸ¨β¬›β¬›
πŸŸ©πŸŸ©β¬›β¬›πŸŸ©
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Another very par day although interestingly guess three and four were nearly synonyms.
I didn't realize there is a pay wall because I only played briefly. I won't be paying so that's it.

I played [Spelling Bee} briefly until I realized you're not really playing it unless you pay for the NYT Games subscription, and I am not giving the NYT money.

You can play Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed and the other NYT games (except for the Crossword) for free 1x a day.

That's good enough for me. Beyond getting to play those games as much as you like, I'm not sure what more a subscription offers you and, since I'm never going to subscribe, I never will find out what those advantages (if any) might be.

I get free daily access to the NYT and to WordleBot thru my local library. WordleBot is cool if you're a "data geek" and like to know the backstory re the solution for each puzzle but, if I had to pay for it, I certainly wouldn't.

Has anyone tried the "Spelling Bee" game at the bottom of the NYT wordle screen? It's fun.

I like Letter Boxed and Spelling Bee as well, but I don’t understand how Spelling Bee works because some days it cuts me off after very few words and other days I can find many. I don’t use the subscription. They had a chess one for awhile that updated weekly but it has disappeared.

Yeah, I think Spelling Bee has a points threshold to cut you off each day. Bunch of small words, or a couple longer ones and some small ones. It's kind of fun, but I only ever play it if I've got the time and am bored. Like the rest, not interested in subscribing, so I'm fine with Wordle and then reading my book in the mornings :)

Same!

⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨
🟨⬜⬜🟩⬜
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Uncommon word but it was easy after I thought
of a word for the 3rd guess that used the same 4 letter
pattern in positions 1-4 that only required changing
the 5th letter to reach the solution.

4 possibilities per WordleBot -- all weird words --
but the answer was the only 1 that I considered.

The current NYT average for this puzzle is 4.0.

The letter pattern "SO__ ___ Y" made it apparent
that there had to be double letter in spaces 3-4
and G was the only one that I thought fit.

2 possibilties per WordleBot -- SOPPY was the
other which I didn't think was a legit word until
I looked it up.

The final NYT average for this puzzle was 4.1.

Not enough info for me to score a Birdie on this one
but IMO Par is still a respectable score for any puzzle.

4 possibilities per WordleBot after the 2nd guess, 3rd
guess was one of them, the 4th solved the puzzle.

The current NYT average for this puzzle is 3.9.

09/28/2022: Wordle 468 3/6 USURP

USURY was the word that 1st came to mind when
I saw the letters revealed by the 2 starter words.
Couldn't use that word because the Y was black
but USURP was still a possibility and the answer.

Again 4 possibilities per WordleBot after the 2nd
guess -- PURRS, BURRS & BLURS which were the
others that I never considered.

The final NYT average for this puzzle was 4.1.
