Life is not leaving me much time or energy to work in the shop much these days but I still forced myself to do a little as it helps the morale. An artsy dagger. Did the basic grind and a little slotting of the guard (which needs a lot of shaping done afterward) but will stop now to do the heat treat and get the blade to finished tolerances. Grinding was not that bad after almost a 5 months hiatus. Better than I anticipated.

Next update might be a long time coming.
Thanks for looking.

It is rough not being able to get time in the shop. Grinding is such good therapy, it should be mandatory to have weekly shop time. Tell your boss I said so. :)

Be sure to let SWMBO see how happy you are after a little shop time!! I like the grind! Welcome back!

Looking good.
I've seen non-symetrical ricasso's like this before. Is there a special use for it?

I was wondering when we were gonna see something new from ya! I think the summer got away from both of us, my friend...

Looks great! Killer grinds!

Patrice, good to see you get time in the shop. The absence from grinding did nothing to diminish your skills, those grinds look fantastic.

I would not even want to try a Seagull, you are the Master of the Birds! ;)

Not sure if there is a purpose to the uneven ricasso. For me it was a design thing with the guard.

And my sweetie is not the one keeping me from the shop, to the contrary, she knows how much it helps.

Thanks for the good words guys.

I've been thinking about the uneven ricasso.
One use I can come up with is that if the dagger is used for cutting you have space to place your thumb and aply pressure.

You could etch a picture of a seagull into an uneven ricasso that big...

Just sayin...

Looks very good, Patrice. I certainly hope you weren't hit with some of the more common older age agrevations like operations for hips, knees, gall blades, anurisms, and or cattarack removal. The aree time consuming and can be painful as well. Frank

Man Patrice! 5 months and you still pulled of some great looking grinds! I haven't ground any thing in close to three cause of the heat. I hope I can get then close to as good as that. Its been toooo hot to do any grinding for more than 5 minutes at a time down here. Keep the WIP pics coming!

I know you guys have been burning up down south. I figure you are overdo for some cooler fall weather. Hope you get some shop time soon.

Fred

Its been in the triple digits for a long time. The other day it was 95 degrees out and you could feel the difference from 105. I almost took my sweater out. hehehehe.....

Pat what kind of handles are you putting on that dagger?

That's a good point Hengelo.
Mr. Niro, no major surgery yet but no energy and bad headaches and still going through multiple tests. Old age probably a major part of it.
I hope it cools some more Frank. It also plays a big role in the summer hiatus for me. Just compounded by other things this year.

Thanks again for the good words. This place and interacting with you guys also has a calming/motivating effect.

Frank, some kind of pink/purplish stabilized wood burl. Hopefully I'll have a better description when the knife is done. ;)
The guard and pommel will have a 'Art Nouveau' look. Well that's the plan anyway. And we all know how it never goes according to plan.:(

That period of art and design is really inspirational. To me, it screams make a knife that looks like me.

The grinds will allow you to be as radical as you please. I'll be watching this one.
