this blade and two others will be at my bud's place for some laser etching this week, but there is stuff I can do to get the handle partly squared away, (spoiler; it involves dismembering a hockey puck)

I'm super excited about this knife! I designed it for a knife maker/jarhead, more specifically I designed his logo and he was going to make me a knife in return so actually I designed it for me. To keep him interested, I designed around the iconic kabar knife, and besides I've always liked those things. It didn't work out for him- he tried and had a catastrophe in heat treating and then he got discouraged and that was that. But I really wanted to see this knife become reality, and now that I know how, (and that I can) do it things are taking the red pill.

Definitely gonna have to indulge in some testing on this one before I release it into the world!

Holy SMOKES - that is and will be a new ICON of a knife of all knives. Beautiful 👍 Hockey puck huh?🤔

haven't tried that stuff, Ray, but it seems like not a terrible idea generally speaking. I do like the stacked approach, though- that's a good idea
this knife will have terotuf handle scales, which is nice and grippy and very light weight.

hockey puck inserts for the handle. I have no idea if this helps diminish shock at all! This is not science, but total conjecture....but....it makes sense to me 🤷‍♂️ Is it worth doing? I dunno!

dropped three knives off at my bud's for engraving, so I guess I'll be keeping busy with a little leather work for a few days. Maybe get a start on that folder....

it's been a minute since I lined a sheath, but the knife that'll live in it needs a soft touch. It got me a little nervous just thinking about it and I've put it off for longer than intended. Having gotten a start on it tonight made me think about how hard it was the last time I did it, but that the last time I did it I did a significantly better job of it than I did the time I did it before. Remembering all the hard parts is the way that learning the hard way works, and it works for me apparently, because this time it will be pretty easy and good. So easy, in fact, that I'm going to complicate it for myself with another challenge:rolleyes:
🤷‍♂️

Whatever the case, look at this stuff! Beautiful, buttery, veg tan deer skin. I actually knew the deer whose flesh this skin once covered- this leather is 30 years old!

You have a diverse skill set - ALL - characterized by aim for excellence, which most often is achieved - even surpassed. Always looking forward to seeing what's next from Lorien. Make sure to write the deer's name somewhere on that liner. Nice tribute. :)

you are too kind! Thank you :)

That is looking like a beastly folder, Lorien, I dig it.

I really like the last folder you built as well. I know you answered the question regarding some general production before regarding some of your knives but do you think any of your folders might make that short list in the future? Or will they largely be one-offs?

thank you, Dylan!

So, the last folding knife I made, (also my first lol) which I cheekily called 'Bird' for the forum, (it has another name it'll go by) is currently with a large knife manufacturer and should be available as a regular production knife for around $150, (I'm guessing) at some point in the fairly near future.

This knife is intended to follow the same path. Although there are no guarantees, it does have some interesting features which should appeal to a manufacturer from a geeky, knife nerd perspective. Fingers crossed! If it doesn't take, then I'll be offering it for sale here on Bladeforums. If it does take, the manufacturer will have it for a period of time, after which I'll get it back and sell it here on Bladeforums, (likely for more, haha!).

Once this knife is done and a few other projects are squared away, and some new ones started, my plan is to build a Bingalor, (first post in my Gallery page). It'll be a one-off, since I'll be figuring out procedures, identifying problems and testing it. Once I'm confident that I've gotten everything nailed down, I'm planning on outsourcing the cutting of the liners and blades and doing a small batch of them- between 4 and 6 probably.

The Bingalor is a special design to me, not simply because I personally find almost every aspect of it appealing but because I worked on that with my dearly departed friend, Bruce Bingenheimer, (hence the name). I designed that folder for him, and based the aesthetic on what I'd seen of his work. Apparently he sold a good many of them. I can't think of a better way to honour him than to pick up the torch and carry on with it.

I hope I answered your question somewhere in there!
