I've been lusting after a Strider SMF striped blade green handle, but damn they're pricey. Is it worth the bones?

i like the smf, and most of the folder line. there aren't many others out there in the size range of the smf. so in terms of size, materials, and construction, i believe they are worth the cost.

if you are able to find a used one, the price will likely be substantially lower. i just saw one sell for $300 on another forum, though not in the same configuration you are looking for.

Yes...Buy it. The SMF is by far my favorite knife. It makes my Benchmades feel like a Barbie knife..:D

Another vote - mine is just like the one in Mystros pic - gunner grips with digicam blade.

It's worth it if you want it bad enough. My humble opinion? There are knives are comparable toughness and features for much less. I prefer the ZT0300 series in this class.

That said, Striders retain their value well. If this is something you've wanted for a long time, buy it, and you don't feel you got your money's worth, sell it for a $20 loss and move on. It'd be better than buying something cheaper and always wondering.

Thats not true at all. Striders dont retain their value very well compared to something like a CRK. You're looking at around $100 differance between a new Strider and used one depending on the condition of it. This shouldnt matter if what you really want is a Strider. I recommend getting one if you can afford it since they are such beastly, overbuilt knives.

ZT knives are a good compromise (if we can call it that) at least in terms of price if the Strider price tag makes you uncomfortable. If I had the money, I'd have no problems buying a Strider. I think my next one will be an RW-1.

Is that true? So if I bought a Strider, used it gently for a week, and sold it again, I'd lose $100?

If that's the case, then just buy the used one now since it'll be brand new anyway and way cheaper, and then you'll take most of the depreciation out of it so you'll be able to sell it for slightly less than you bought it.

The big difference in comparing the Strider SMF to a ZT 0300 is the weght difference. The Strider is so much lighter than the ZT. You can easily EDC the SMF. The ZT weighs as much as a soup can in the pocket. The fit and feel of the Strider is totally different in the hand compared to the ZT. I own both but consider them very different knives.

Probably worth it.

I had one and sold it and have been halfway looking for another one since. You can get one used for $300 ish, but not the gunner grip versions shown in the thread. As I recall, new is $400 plus and $500 for the GG, or thereabouts. I think it is true, that the ZT 300 series is much the same knife (Strider co-designed) but the Striders are fairly unique.

I feel the same way. Some days I look at them and go 'YES!'. Other days I just feel 'meh'.....

I think it depends on the angle and the lighting in the photograph. :p

I did have a SNG for a short while. It was a DGG variant. I must say I found it damnably difficult to seat the thing in my pocket. Those Ti clips are incredibly tight.

Is that why so many go with sheaths?

I also wanted to add, it seems that the CC and GG variations tend to not need any break-in? I was surprised when my SMF GG digicam came right out of the box smooth as glass perfect.

I recommend this Strider dealer. Fast shipping and great prices. (That is my Strider pic on his home page.)http://www.mattdtactical.com/

Currently I'm EDCing a SNG & was considering changing to a SMF CC for a while. However, the indecisive continues for more than half a year & continues because I can get a lot of other quality knives at that price range (maybe even customs), major showstopper for me.
