One knife only

SAK. Specifically the Victorinox Farmer. It would be my only knife If I chose to have but one.

Thanks for the input but it is not what you need but what I need. Can your Farmer penetrate layers of leather and fat and muscle and not just wound but kill quickly do to no blood pressure do to not having any blood left in them?

Swiss Army knife.

That would also be my choice The saw on the Farmer would make it a great woods choice, and the set of tools on a SuperTinker would make it a great urban choice.

Of course, that said, I would have note than one knife. I can't imagine how I would be limited to one/

Good suggestion but it would take way too many stabs to down a biker with 4 inches of leather on. When the Swiss Army Knife comes with a 10 inch bowie I will consider getting one.

Not a bad choice but I just do not care for leuku knives, just not my thing. I also like a guard to keep my fingers from getting sliced if I stab something.

You guys need to remember, I am a monk on top of a hill and all kinds of evil things will be trying to battle me for my awesome strong spiritual powers. Animal armies will try to eat my liver.

This is not a very realistic scenario. However, if we're going with unrealistic scenarios, then I change my choice to Lightsaber. Let's see that leather stand up to one of those!

C'mon bro, this is Stabman we're talking about here! He probably doesn't own a non-stabbity-stab knife. ;)

Lol, true.

I need to get serious now.

There have been a lot of good choices but none that match what I need.

The SAK is just not even close to being a good one knife. It will be snapped in two by the 3rd tree it has to chop/saw down which means any lean too I am building would be only wide enough for a snake.

I like the BK9 but like I said, the scales will eventually come off and I am not letting my survival depend on an Allen wrench and lock tight.

That Smatchet thing that Stabman has is very cool but I need something with only one sharpened side as I am sure I will eventually need to choke up on the blade for fine work.

A lot of other suggestions are not feasible do to tool or erotic steels. All I have to sharpen with is an Arkansas stone and I do not want to spend 12 hours sharpening extremely hard stainless and tool steel.

The BK9 is close. It is a big bowie and of a simple knife steel.

Did not mean to insult your choice and embarrass you. What part do you find "unrealistic"? Actually do not answer that as I want to stick to the subject and not let this post be stoled by you.

I gave a scenario and it is your job to recommend knives that fit into this scenario and not how you live. A guy in down town Chicago has a completely different realization of how a knife is used compared to somebody deep in the woods of Georgia. Someone in the Florida Glades has no idea how a guy in the high country of Idaho uses his knife. Just because you do not understand why a person want a knife for a specific reason does not mean it is not valid.

A knife collector and knife user see's things in a very different way.

You wanna kill cows and crap?
Some kind of sog seal then.
Something wide with total curvature and a pointy tip. Ka-Bar full size? Sog Team leader? Benchmade Nimravus?

I want just one knife to have for the rest of my life.

What should it be?

It will be used for cooking, hunting, camping, bushcrafting, fighting outlaw bikers, stabbing aggressive bears and dogs, general utility and anything else life has to throw at me.

You may consider this silly but at one time if you lived in the wilderness you had a limited amount of stuff and everything else you had to build. Example the mountain men, Indian tribes, Daniel Boon and Davie Crocket. Just about anybody living west of the Mississippi pre 1840. For me lets say I want to become a monk and live on top of a hill for the rest of my life with no connection to society.

If you could have only one knife to make it for the rest of your life what would it be and remember it is not for some guy living in an apartment in the city but somebody who is in the wilderness.

A 12" clip point bowie... ALL HAIL THE BOWIE!
