One knife only

SAK One Handed Trekker (or military version of same); all the tools I could see myself needing in a easy to carry and deploy package. I'd probably add a pocket clip and a Photon Microlight to it.

For the rest of my life.... tough one. It changes as my experience changes, but right now it would be the Dozier Pro Guides knife. I think that I can do just about anything that requires a knife with this one and it is a quality knife. My general leanings are a 4" knife like a super duper BK-16 (such as the Fallkniven F1), but the rest of my life nudges me toward a slightly longer bladed knife. The knives that I use the most are folders with the lowly SAK or a GEC #42 being No. 1 in that department. Paired with the Pro Guides Knife.... I think it would be a very flexible and carryable package.

Hopefully the op hasn't already moved to his mountain paradise. but I would recommend the green river belt knife. Super easy to sharpen holds a great edge and gets scary sharp, just a classic design for such a small price tag.

How ridiculous. I saw this one coming 10 miles away.

I'm still trying to figure out the point of this. Forget the silly premise that has been done a million times and will be done a million more times for a second.

Apparently we were all to give answers that were "wrong," so that the OP, at the end could say, "Nice try everybody, but the Marine Raider that I already own is better than your suggestions and the correct answer to the question I posed."

I don't see how we are supposed to read this any other way.

That's exactly right. That's why I reserved comment until that came to light. I knew post 1 where it was headed....

Should've just said "hey guys - I like the marine raider. I think it can be a "one knife solution" and do everything I need it to do. What do you think?"

I think he already decided it was his one knife solution before he started the thread. Whatever. I'm done wasting my time on this.

For sure. I think he even came out and said as much. It was just predictable funneling until it reached the inevitable conclusion.

Hmmmm, guess I would choose the choice of many people living in the outdoors all over the world: a machete. Though I can't really see any one knife handling everything, maybe a better thread might be "what five to handle everything"? :)

I find it difficult to accept the one knife premise. In the past in a shtf scenario where you could only carry one knife and that was it forever.... the BK-2 or ESEE 5 tended to come to mind. But I don't live in that world and I will always have a folder to compliment whatever fixed blade I might be carrying in the "woods". If I want to chop (some), I carry a one of the short machetes. If I want to chop a lot, I carry an axe or a chain saw. But I tend to fall into the folding saw camp for "medium sized" stuff that you might need to process at a camp site versus something large enough to cut down trees and build a cabin with.

Yes, Jeepster likes the Ontario Marine Raider. That is his choice. He likes other blades too and seems to be trying new stuff out as he can when he can afford it like many of the rest of us. From old threads, I would be hard pressed to carry such a big knife out in the woods for any reason beyond chopping and I have machetes for that purpose. Tis why I don't own the BK-9 which I consider a good moderately priced blade.

Its a good idea and I could live with it but the answer is Marine Raider.

You still get an awesome point for trying.

If you knew the answer why start the thread:confused:

Why not just start a thread about the Marine Raider.

I was going to reply with a knife, but since I'm now aware that you'll just tell me I get a point for trying I won't bother.

Can I at least get half a point for replying to your thread ?
:p

If I had to take just one knife out into the woods it would be this one: Victorinox Trekker (not the one handed model)

In my opinion the non one handed model has a better Kephart style blade shape than the one handed. It also sits in the pocket better and is easier to find sheaths that work for it. If I were being dropped off in the woods for a week and could only take one tool, it would be that one. Hands down.

There's no way I could only have one knife. I'm a chef and need at least 3 minimum plus folders lol.

But if an emergency situation happened and people were looting and stuff, I'd pick my kukri.
