one knife? restricted rules

Such a simple question.
Kershaw Knockout.

I've owned the Sebenza's, Striders, and other high end knives. While I loved them all, I don't NEED them for EDC.
They're gone now, though I will have a Sebenza again in my life.
At this point I have a Spyderco Gayle Bradley and CF UKPK, Breeden Rescue, etc. I still pick the Knockout.

I'm not a fan of Spring assisted knives but I love this one. It's a great size, thin, light, strong, decent steel, and can handle everything I need to use it for.
I carry it the most out of all of my knives.

Spyderco Military plain jane model . In the time it took me to type that I changed my mind 3 times haha. Good question!

Me too, but the Military would win in the end. Even though I have a left handed version, they are good for either hand no matter what the configuration. I like my Cold Steel knives a lot, but the ones I have are most definitely right handed only. If limited to just one for carry, it would have to be able to be switched from left to right without affecting how I use it.

Military wins hands down.

If I could carry only one knife for the rest of my life, that would be a boring life. However my choice would be the Victorinox SwissChamp. Almost any tool you could ever need, in a small pocket knife shaped package.

We live in a time when having multiple knives is not hard for most of us. And ordering off the internet sure makes it easier. Think back to your Father or Grandfather. One knife possibly needed to last your lifetime. Think to a possible future where the financial shenanigans being played by TPTB doom us all to a life of misery and wanting. It could happen, ala The Great Depression part II.

Coming to a neighborhood near you, soon. Wait for it.

It actually would have already happened. But with the government spending near 2 trillion dollars a year more than it takes in in taxes, they have been able to hide the effects from us. 46 million people on food stamps would otherwise be people waiting in food lines, just like 1929. How much longer can they keep this up????? Seats! Get your seats on the Titanic, sailing today!

That Spyderco Domino I handled at Blade Show sure felt glorious

$.89 retractable box cutter with break-away blade. It's as light as a ball-point pen. The blade is razor sharp and I never need a sharpener. You /can/ use the blade as a screwdriver. It will cut through just about anything I might encounter during my workday. It might not be the sexy pick, but it's incredibly practical for my workday.*

My dad's utility knife of choice for years was an Old Hickory paring knife. It may just be that I come from a line of cheapskates. :)

*If I worked outdoors in the field I'd probably pick my Mora. The grip just lays in my hand so nicely. :)

Every time this question is asked, I give a different answer. This time it is a Spyderco, BG-42, Carbon Fiber Military.

3in XM-18, mine as go all out if I can only have one knife and I like my Cryo mine as well go high end. And yes this thing would be used and abused if I could only have 1 knife, I am putting my knife funds all into this one knife. If that isn't an option than there is the ZT 0560, ZT 0566, ZT 0350.

Reason for the XM-18 is overall design of the knife, you can see the trend with the other Hinderer knives that I had in the list. Big difference is I wanted the 3in blade as it's the largest I can go while remaining legal and I find 2.75-3in to be very comfortable with the 3in knives I've handles fit my hand quite well. As well as wanting the scales on that particular knife, that is excluding the blade material options and other small details that are just icing on the cake when compared to the other options.

Those are the knives I chose not because they were expensive, fancy, etc. It's because I like the design, I feel a LOT safer using a knife with a flipper on it that doubles as a stop so I don't run my hand up along the blade. And I like something in which my finger closest the the blade is recessed in a little bit along with the flipper. And having owned the Cryo for a little while I imagine I would love owning the XM-18, ZT 0560, ZT 0566. The ZT 0350 is thrown in as I have held a Blur before and loved it but as I said before I love the flipper on knives that double as a safety feature and that ZT has that while remaining close to the Blur in overall design.

i rotate a delica, caly, endura, military and always a slipjoint so i have at least 2 knives in my person. not surprisingly, this one gets most of the cutting chores so it's my ONE knife:

Do I get to keep my SAK/multitool? Because if I don't, then my "knife" choice would be one of those. They are just too handy not to have.

Otherwise, if I'm going to have a single knife for the rest of my life, it's going to be a good fixed blade in the 4" to 5" size range. They are just better tools than folders. Something like this:

As far as an EDC Folder, I'd have to stick with my EDC from the last 23+ years...... Spyderco Endura
I upgraded to the Endura IV after the loss of my original Endura and continued to carry it.
Only recently a few months ago I decided to finally dig out a few new knives from the safe and I've begun EDC rotation.
I'll admit, it feels weird having anything else in my pocket, but I'm enjoying the change with some other good knives.

If I was to carry a fixed blade, I'd most likely carry a Boker Arbolito El Trampero Ciervo Stag or better yet a Boker Arbolito Relincho Cuerno de Ciervo Stag

Neck knife Boker Plus Fitz in Carbon Fiber or Stag

Kershaw leek with the Jeep on the side of it. I have been carrying that knife since they cam out with them and I will keep doing it until I am dead. I think I am going to have hem burry it with me when I go.

I carry 2 EDC Knives ~~ the Para2 & the Delica ZDP189 as I use them both for different reasons and 9 of of 10 times I use them both a couple of times a day ~~ so they just both just don't stay clipped to my pocket all day long.!**
