One knife to do it all!

Im actually in the market for a knife with this criteria. Im looking at the Spyderco chaparral.

Great suggestions, still leaning towards crk mnandi though.

I agree with the SAK suggestions.

OTOH, a higher-end one-handed folder that might also fit your description is the CRK small Inkosi. I actually like mine more than the small Insingo.

guy is looking for $500 tough built and good looking CRK- caliber knife and some of you are recommending $30 SAKs:confused: I would go with Hinderer xm-18.

It's a head scratcher to me too, but kinda funny at the same time:D
It happens every time though.

I'm sure he knows what a SAK is, and if that's what he was looking for his post would've been worded MUCH differently.

Just to clarify a bit: I already have several saks, slipjoints,Spyderco dragonfly and sage 1, crk small insingo 21, strider sng, Chavez 228 and some others to name a few

Answering the question asked --- "Do it all". Yes, perhaps he should have worded it differently.

How well does that CRK work as a screw driver or can opener??? It's is not a "do it all knife", CRK looks great and cuts like the dickens, that is the extent of its usefulness.

Titanium Spyderco Military is a nice choice for half your budget. I also have owned Sebenzas and they are nice. Just my personal opinion here... I dont think they are worth $450. I also have a Les George VECP V3 and it is really nice. For a $500 budget you have a ton of choices. I would suggest getting to a nice cutlery shop that carries a bunch of blades in the price range and handle them.

If you know what you like in a knife then buying without handling may be easier. I went through a large number of buy and quickly sell cycles with nice folders while I was learning what I like in a pocket knife.

I didn't think there was a knife like that until I got one of these....

Southern Grind Spider Monkey.

Go grab one from Whitty at USA Made Blade.

Carbon fiber goodness.

You already own a few knives that are as close to do-it-all a knife is going to get...

Carry the Insingo and SnG together and there's not much you won't be able to cut/pry/chop.

If you want something in-between, get an XM-18, but you are going to lose a ton of cutting ability for a bit more prying ability....not really worth it in my eyes, as prying with my knives is rare, and a last resort deal. (The Insingo handles light prying very well)

I think you need to define the parameters of do-it-all as it pertains to a knife..

I had no problem understanding his post, and thought it was worded just fine :)

The confusion doesn't arise from the content of the post; it is the title of the thread that causes the problem.

"Do it all" causes one to consider all the tasks one is called upon to perform in their daily life for which a pocket knife might be appropriate, and it presumes the OP wishes to carry only one knife.

I, for one, can't imagine going through my day with only a single-bladed folder in my pocket, but I can appreciate the satisfaction of carrying highly functional pocket jewelry. Perhaps "high-end gentleman's folder recommendation" would have been clearer.

I think the OPs title and 1st post do contradict a little, but I focused more on what was laid out in the post. I inferred that "do it all" meant one that can be regularly used as an EDC, gentleman's knife, suitable office carry, and sheeple friendly while remaining somewhat tough and easy to maintain. If his primary consideration is a Mnandi, I highly doubt he's looking for a screwdriver or pry tool.

yes but he said "one KNIFE"

An excellent point. Some of us consider SAKs (in spite of their name) to be "multitools." Others (and I include myself here) consider them to be knives.

I offered no recommendation, as my answer would be a Victorinox Pioneer or Electrician, and I didn't think that was what he was looking for. Nevertheless, I don't think those who were bold enough to suggest an alox SAK should be chastised.

how well does the SAK work as a paint brush? if you really want go down the route od "do it all" without reading what the OP is truly looking for?
