One knife to do it all!

How about your read the title of the thread AND the text body again? "ONE KNIFE to do it all." Do you think the little knife included in a SAK (which strictly speaking is a multitool not a knife) can do it all? I can sure damn open a paint can with my $500 knife but I won't. Nor will I use my SAKs - they are too short and too awkward for that. My $2 wally screwdriver would work much better.

What does SAK stand for? Swiss Army KNIFE.... Doh!

I'll recommend what I edc, Spyderco Gayle Bradley Ver 1. 3.4"+, M4 blade, just works great for me around the shop and yard. I have large hands and the fit is good. Here is how Gayle Bradley describes his knife design. A squirt and wipe of Break Free CLP keeps the blade in like-new condition.

Another good video about the GB 1

I haven't used the ver 2, no reason to swap out my ver 1. But here is comparison.

Definitely a 21 drop clip point with all silver hardware and double lugs. It's the only knife I carry anymore. Other knives might score 100% in one or two categories, but they usually get an A- or a B+ somewhere. Not this knife, it gets an A+ in every category possible and then can be taken apart, cleaned and reassembled with precision and ease. Plus just look at the damn thing!

Well when I bought it it was a large sebenza insingo 21 with double blue lugs and blue hardware. But I sent it back to CRK and had them install a clip point blade with silver double lugs and all silver hardware. Much better [emoji57]

My small insingo 21 is pretty darn close to what I am looking for.
I just want something a bit dressier I guess, that's why I am leaning toward a mnandi.

I am not sure what part of the hint below you didn't get? The point that I got from it is "I already have several SAK's, please stop recommending those" But hey, who knows, I could be wrong.
Then maybe the answer is, you already own knives the meet your criteria.

I'd have to say the Kizlyar Supreme Ute fits the bill nicely.

It's a thicker sturdier liner lock then most.
It's a thick enough blade to handle harder use.
It sharpens and slices well enough for all general purposes.
It's 440c, so a good balanced steel in terms of stainlessness, toughness, and strength, while still being soft enough to field sharpen and strop as needed.
It's priced right at around $50 to give you ease of mind for us frugal folk, but quality enough built to give peace of mind while using.

And for added sh!@$ and giggles, it comes with a glass breaker and a built in prytool/bottle opener in the handle (for paint cans and such ;) ).

A bit on the heavy side, but It's a rugged little affordable tank of a knife for sure.

Liner thickness compared to a vantage pro.

Since you are consisering a mnandi, you might think of a small inkosi as well! I certainly fell in love with it as l did with its bigger brother

Not sure if this was covered before
Many, many, MANY times before with slight variations.

The suggestions are usually similar and the (depressing) progression of the threads are also usually the same.

But since you wrote the below all is good:

But I neeeeed more!!!

:D

While I understand the idea of the one knife to do it all, I cant suggest just one knife.

IMO different tasks needs different knives but thats just my opinion.

Good luck with the quest for the one knife to rule them all.

Its a fun experiment and in the spirit of GD, I guess.

Not sure if this was covered before, but I am looking for a knife that is classy/ gentlemanly/edc/ tough/nice looking/easy to maintain. Prefer folder with ~ 3 inchish blade.
Up to $500 budget, but less is preferred.
Currently thinking of crk mnandi. Any suggestions?

The Mnandi is an excellent choice. It is not as delicate as some may think and is more than adequate as a classy-yet-capable EDC knife, imo. One thing to consider is that the rounded nail-nick makes the Mnandi a bit tricky to open one-handed but it can be done with a 'pinch technique' that takes a bit to get used to. If you do opt for a Mnandi, I'd recommend holding off until you find one with an inlay that really speaks to you... I chose Box Elder Burl, m'self.

Im actually in the market for a knife with this criteria. Im looking at the Spyderco chaparral.

The Spyderco Chaparral is a good choice too. Unless you find a screamin' deal on a titanium variant, I'd suggest going with the standard CF model. The stepped ti looks fantastic but is a little rough on the pants when you use the pocket clip.

Cheers! :)

Take a look at the Burger Knives Atlas Flipper. It's slim and light, with great ergonomics, and frequently replaces my small sebenza for pocket time for office and daily carry. It also comes in several variations to suit your taste preferences and price point. YMMV.
