One knife to rule them all, my grail has arrived.

Peter, roughly how long did you work on the zilla to achieve your ideal profile? I really didn't put much time into it, and just went right into finishing after I got a little stock removed. I'm about to go do a tiny bit more, just going to keep going a little bit at a time. There is a lot of metal, probably one of the fattest convex grinds i've ever seen. I like it, feels sturdy but I just need to trim off a little fat.

I did 4 seperate removals and testing .... I got one long branch which was slightly deeper than the depth of the chopping part of the blade and angled at 45 degrees I would do a full power straight down chop to see how far the blade went in .... gradually I got it to go to the spine ....

If there is a tip to it the upper section from the spine to the main edge created by the grind line at the ricasso needs to be tapered from the spine to that grind line height ... just slightly so that the widest part of the blade is not in the middle of that flat section which can easily happen due to the slack of the belts creating a curve .... I put on a heavy grit belt for taughtness and then two light polishing belts on top of this to give a thick belt with no slack which had just a polishing effect for slow gradual removal and worked up by the pully for maximum belt stiffness .... hope this helps

Check your pic's in post 78 to see what I mean ... there seems to be a slightly raised section there ... or it could be a slight trick of the light ...
