Finally got a chance to test out the zilla good and hard.
We had to get a fire going because it was pretty windy and freezing out on the ice. All we had was large thick pieces... No axe? No problem.
Before I left for the lake with a brand new 230grain special ghetto satin finish-
She had her work cut out for her, this was the smaller of the wood that needed processing.
Batoning is a little harder with a kukri because of the shape of the blade. Once you get it to bite in though, it works like a charm. I didn't mention it yet, but it also splits like a small axe if need be, just a well placed careful chop and you have yourself a knife sized splitting maul.
I'll be honest, I didn't do much fishin'. I only put out five flags, and wasn't even really interested in keeping an eye on them. We did catch a bunch of crappie though, and perch.
What the hell, it's seven AM so it was time for some mooseburgers/sausages, hot dogs, some bear chili and some more hot dogs.
Ahhh the best part of fishing.
I think the knife is almost perfect as it is, but I think the primary grind could be thinned just a tiny bit more to achieve my goal of axe like cuts. It's pretty close, but I'll work it over a little bit more this weekend and keep testing it before I put a finer finish on it so I don't have to keep going over it with finer grits.
I did manage to snap the screw that holds the strap on the open spine sheath though. I was the victim in the bed of a truck being whipped around on the race track on the ice, and I must have bounced ten feet in the air after going over a jump. I think I have an extra screw laying around here somewhere.
