Hah the only one more knife sell a few then I’m done…. Too bad it doesn’t work like that.

Good luck sir.

Hopefully that means you had a kid, came up with a new hobby, A very expensive girlfriend or something else good.
Quit my job of 21 years and moved 1000 miles away. Also got a new car.

Totally worth it, I'm loving northern Colorado much better than Chicago.

I told my wife I was only buying 1 knife in 2025. It's only March and I've bought 5 already and my wife gave me one for my birthday. So I'm 6 knives deep and got 9 months of the year left lol.

One of my rules in life is to never make random promises. On the important things in life, sure.

After many years of collecting, owning now over130 folders 75 fixed and or kitchen knives, 65 manufacturers, made with at least 60 different steels, way too many multi-tools and saks. I want just one more knife, sell a few and then I think I am done collecting. I can only use so many in my rotation and even with whatever latest drop that shows up, I find I do not want anything else. Not saying there not a lot of other great knives out there just that I am good with where I am at.
I was at that point about 100 knives ago and now I am there again. I have a Walter Brend on order and then that is it. I promise. Really. This time I am serious. I'm Done!

Good luck my friend! May you find "that last one" that sets you free.

I was doing well myself for a while. Going through some personal stuff, I think I only bought one knife early last year, (a spider monkey with the black&red cf, which has been my primary user as most of my collection is currently packed up). Sometimes I'll browse my favorite knife porn sites, lots of ooo's and ah's, and much appreciation to the makers and manufacturers for design & craftsmanship, but not really pursuing anything particular either, and nothing really jumping out at me screaming that I just had to have it...

Was I done though? Definitely not, but I was (and still am) definitely in a completely "different" place than I used to be... I'm sure over time it'll change again one, two, three more times as my taste and position evolves.

Now however, after essentially a full year off, a new chapter of my life opened up as an old one closed, and while currently on a mini vacation I've now landed 5 new knives through visiting 2 different shops the past 2 days, to commemorate this new journey & moment in my life. I will probably be "done" for a little while now, but maybe not, maybe a fixed blade yet and/or a slippie or 2 will come my way yet, we shall see, but even if i took a few years off, (which that time too may come), I feel I would be hard pressed I think, to ever truly say "I'm done for good"... Something may always catch my eye, even if it takes a year or more to do so; a flea market, yard sale, or antiquiting or thrift store find? Stumbling upon a new shop and/or a new maker in a new town on vacation? Seeing a serial number or model number or coa born on date that triggers a sentimental spark?
Shoot, I still want to attend Blade Show (maybe next year), and Blade TX, since it's just 4.5 hrs from my brother's place, maybe even Blade West just because... Certainly can't imagine I'll go to either of those and walk out empty handed, even though there is really nothing specific in mind that I'd be after?

I only have about 20 folders 6 fixed blades and drawer full of kitchen knives and I feel the same way. In my heart I tell myself a person needs one good folding knife and one good fixed blade and should be good to go. Oh but the SAKs and Multi tools, gottta have one of those, Oh one with a wood handle too, etc...But seriously I have started pairing back on knives but have trouble selling them as they are never worth what I think, so I just hang on to them. So now I am looking for what I really like and will sell a few at lower than I would like prices to get what I really like.

Riiiiigght....

I just make myself extremely picky to avoid buying too many knives. I look for any excuse to not buy a knife. It's a good way to be extremely satisfied with what you do have without hoarding.

My advise on the strategy to avoid buying too may, is to carry your favorite or best or most expensive knife. Sounds like it’s going to be expensive doing that but it sure saved me a lot of money attempting buying similar knives.
