Good luck my friend! May you find "that last one" that sets you free.
I was doing well myself for a while. Going through some personal stuff, I think I only bought one knife early last year, (a spider monkey with the black&red cf, which has been my primary user as most of my collection is currently packed up). Sometimes I'll browse my favorite knife porn sites, lots of ooo's and ah's, and much appreciation to the makers and manufacturers for design & craftsmanship, but not really pursuing anything particular either, and nothing really jumping out at me screaming that I just had to have it...
Was I done though? Definitely not, but I was (and still am) definitely in a completely "different" place than I used to be... I'm sure over time it'll change again one, two, three more times as my taste and position evolves.
Now however, after essentially a full year off, a new chapter of my life opened up as an old one closed, and while currently on a mini vacation I've now landed 5 new knives through visiting 2 different shops the past 2 days, to commemorate this new journey & moment in my life. I will probably be "done" for a little while now, but maybe not, maybe a fixed blade yet and/or a slippie or 2 will come my way yet, we shall see, but even if i took a few years off, (which that time too may come), I feel I would be hard pressed I think, to ever truly say "I'm done for good"... Something may always catch my eye, even if it takes a year or more to do so; a flea market, yard sale, or antiquiting or thrift store find? Stumbling upon a new shop and/or a new maker in a new town on vacation? Seeing a serial number or model number or coa born on date that triggers a sentimental spark?
Shoot, I still want to attend Blade Show (maybe next year), and Blade TX, since it's just 4.5 hrs from my brother's place, maybe even Blade West just because... Certainly can't imagine I'll go to either of those and walk out empty handed, even though there is really nothing specific in mind that I'd be after?
