One more folder and I think I am done

I was supposed to be done buying when I retired in January; in fact I actually sold a few to thin the herd, as it were, to help get myself in the right mindset. But alas, I’ve been on a minor shopping spree lately, because I guess I never fully got over the bug. Mostly stuff I see in the exchange that looks too nice and is too good a price to pass up. In fact I have one more in the mail right now that I had never seen before and was just too pretty to ignore. Well, now I think the last one will soon be on its way: a TRM Atom. After having a Neutron for awhile and becoming more infatuated with it the more I fidgeted with it, I just had to have its bigger brother. They’ve been increasingly hard to come by, so when I learned that I could wrangle one direct from TRM with the scales I want, I had to pull the trigger. And now I really have to stop. Yeah right.

I'm sure we can all quit anytime we like...after all, we are adults...right?...right?

I just want 5 knives (folders) that I find ideal. So far I only have one, I recently claimed another but the thread was nearly two months old and I haven't heard back :(
I have at least 20 that I could consider ideal, which is why I bought them. Maybe two or three of them actually get used. I’m sure I had equally good reasons for buying all the others at the time, too. 😁

I do hope your most recent claim works out.

Unbelievable. The fingerprint smudges were still damp on my keyboard from posting this when I got an email from Buck announcing the new 791 Range series. Somebody please convince me why a black handled Range Pro shouldn’t be my next last knife purchase.
Because one more ain't gonna cut it. Now, get back into the game...we need you on that wall.

With you. I've got 2 on preorder, and my eye only like 3-4 more, but after that I am D-U-N, done.

Then I'll probly go back to weird fantasy axes or something.
Damned if I didn't get more folding knives and not one axe since I posted this declaration.

I admire the OP's restraint. I don't think I would be able to stop, I've just slowed way down.

Even before the Emerson that made me realize there wasn't an equal cost-to-satisfaction increase, I had already experienced a lot of what the production knife world had to offer. I started looking at my reasons for accumulating knives, in the first place.

I'll skip the philosophy in the middle of that process.

These days, a new purchase has to have some job that it does for me, and a lot of things about size, shape, lock type, and cost also have to be right for the credit card to come out.

It would seem that a custom purchase is the "logical next step", and I would agree, except that I decided to do something even more foolish, and try to concentrate on improving my own knife-making process so that I can offer the knives I would want to buy if they already existed. In the meanwhile, I still get distracted by the occasional electrician pattern, and I'm looking for a Schatt & Morgan that I like.

After many years of collecting, owning now over130 folders 75 fixed and or kitchen knives, 65 manufacturers, made with at least 60 different steels, way too many multi-tools and saks. I want just one more knife, sell a few and then I think I am done collecting. I can only use so many in my rotation and even with whatever latest drop that shows up, I find I do not want anything else. Not saying there not a lot of other great knives out there just that I am good with where I am at.
I've been repeating the "one more folder knife and then I'm done" line for the last 10 years. At this point, who am I kidding? 🤣
